Doug Brieske of Brookwood High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week, the organization announced Wednesday.

Brieske, in his 10th season as the head coach, and 11th with the Brookwood program, led the Falcons to a 27-7 victory over Iowa-Grant Cooperative High School on Friday, Nov. 1, to advance to the third level of the Division 6 WIAA State Tournament. Friday's victory also marked Brookwood's first second-round playoff victory and 10-win season in school history. Brieske's team will now travel to No. 1-ranked Darlington this Saturday at 1 p.m.

"This season we have a tremendous group of seniors," said Brieske. "They have unbelievable leadership skills and they play for each other, not themselves."

A Tomah, Wis., native, Brieske is a 1990 graduate of Tomah High School, where he played defensive tackle and fullback. After high school, Brieske attended North Dakota State University, where he played defensive tackle under head coach Rocky Hager.  Brieske was also a part of the 1990 Division II National Champion team.  Brieske began his coaching career in 1992 as a student assistant at North Dakota State. Upon graduating in 1996, he coached high school basketball in western North Dakota before accepting an assistant football coaching position at Brookwood in 2001.  He was promoted to his current position as head coach in 2002.  Brieske is also the school's physical education teacher.

Brieske and his staff oversee a program of 47 players. His assistant coaching staff includes Dan Hyatt, Wade Kaiser, Matt Pogorzelski and Kelly Wallace.

Brieske and his wife, Jeanine, have two sons, Jayden and Adam.
