Sixth Annual Ride Set For Saturday, June 13: One-Way Ride from Peshtigo To Green Bay

The Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer, a motorcycle ride to benefit cancer patients and families throughout Northeastern Wisconsin, presented checks totaling $86,000 to six local cancer support organizations Tuesday at Lambeau Field.

The funds distributed were raised in last year's Cruise for Cancer, an event that drew nearly 800 participants. Since its inception, the ride has raised approximately $250,000 for the cause.

Jerry Parins, the Packers' senior security advisor and organizer of the event, distributed money to the following organizations: The Bellin Foundation, Families of Children with Cancer Inc., The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Ribbon of Hope Foundation, St. Vincent Hospital Regional Cancer Center (Compassionate Care Fund) and Unity Hospice.

Diagnosed with cancer in 2003, Parins was strengthened during his journey by the support he received from his family and friends and witnessed many families who also were dealing with the effects of the treatment and disease. At the time, Parins pledged to help other families dealing with the disease, and thus the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer ride was born.

Parins also previewed the sixth annual Cruise to be held on Saturday, June 13.

This year's route is a new, one-way event, leaving Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Peshtigo at 11:30 a.m. and making its way to Lambeau Field for the customary tailgate party.

Pre-registration forms currently are available through www.cruiseforcancer.org or at Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Peshtigo and Vandervest Custom Cycles in Green Bay. A $15 donation per person is required to participate in the ride. Riders who pre-register by June 8 are eligible for a chance to win an autographed mini-helmet.

Interested riders can win prizes by enlisting the help of others with the use of a pledge form. The form is available on the ride's Web site at www.cruiseforcancer.org.

On the day of the ride, registration begins at 8 a.m. at Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Peshtigo. The ride will leave Vandervest at 11:30 a.m. and head toward Green Bay.

Upon arrival at Lambeau Field, a tailgate party will be held beginning at 1 p.m. in the Lambeau Field parking lot near the Mills Fleet Farm Gate at the southwest corner of the stadium. Food provided by Festival Foods and Miller products will be available for purchase. An auction, as well as music by the Trapper John Band, will be part of the festivities. Also, a $20,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle will be awarded to one of 10 finalists selected through a watch-to-win promotion on WFRV-TV.

Packers players and personnel will be on hand to make appearances at the tailgate party. The tailgate party is free and open to everyone, not just riders.
