The Green Bay Packers today announced details for the eighth annual Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer event, which is set for Friday, July 29. The event once again features a motorcycle ride, but for non-riding fans who want to support the cause, the post-ride tailgate party should make for a fun-filled evening.
The tailgate party begins at 5 p.m. in Lambeau Field's east parking lot. Fans will enjoy live and silent auctions, food, beverages and merchandise for purchase and live music by a Wisconsin favorite, The Love Monkeys. The party is free for riders and a $5 donation for non-riders. Please visit www.packers.com often as further Cruise for Cancer tailgate party details will be updated as the date nears.
On the day of the ride, registration begins at 1 p.m. at Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Peshtigo, Wis. The ride's route again is a one-way event, leaving Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Peshtigo at 3:30 p.m. and making its way to Lambeau Field.
Online registration is available at www.cruiseforcancer.org, or riders can register in person at Vandervest Harley-Davidson in Peshtigo and Vandervest Custom Cycles in Green Bay. A $20 donation per driver and $15 donation per passenger is required to participate in the ride. Riders who pre-register by July 20 are eligible for a chance to win a Charles Woodson autographed mini-helmet.
All riders will receive a free Cruise for Cancer commemorative bandana.
Interested riders also can win prizes by enlisting the help of others with the use of a pledge form. The form is available on the ride's website at www.cruiseforcancer.org.
The ride, formerly always held the second Saturday of June, has been rescheduled for this date due to the Kenny Chesney "Goin' Coastal" concert being held at Lambeau Field on Saturday, June 11.
Diagnosed with cancer in 2003, Parins was strengthened during his journey by the support he received from his family and friends and witnessed many families who also were dealing with the effects of the treatment and disease. At the time, Parins pledged to help other families dealing with the disease, and thus the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer ride was born.
