The registration deadline is approaching for the Packers Hall of Fame's 12th annual "Tundra Tales" at-home reading program for students in grades 4K through 8. The deadline is Friday, Jan. 14, and the program will run from Jan. 24 through March 27, 2022.
The "Tundra Tales" program aims to develop lifelong reading habits by encouraging children to read at home. Students in 4K through fifth grade must read or be read to for 60 minutes every week, outside of school, for eight weeks (a total of 480 minutes). Students in sixth through eighth grades must read 90 minutes a week (a total of 720 minutes). An extra week to achieve the total goal has been included to accommodate school schedules and spring breaks.
Educators and coordinators can offer two program options to their participants: bi-weekly, with four two-week segments and a Packers-themed prize at the end of each segment, or a traditional option with one eight-week segment. Participants who achieve the final goal will receive a Packers Hall of Fame voucher good for one free participant admission and one reduced price adult admission. Again this year, due to COVID-19 and the adjustments many schools are making as far as in-person, virtual or hybrid learning, coordinators who need additional flexibility or have questions about how to adapt the program to their unique learning environments can contact *firstname.lastname@example.org. *
Each school or classroom registered for Tundra Tales that has a 75 percent or higher completion rate for the program will be eligible to receive a grant to use toward literary resources for their school or classroom. Grants range from $50 to $500, with funding from Green Bay Packers Give Back, and are available for nonprofit organizations only. Checks will be made out to schools or districts, with letters specifying how funds should be distributed to individual classes.
Program appropriate tracking sheets are available in both English and Spanish on packershofandtours.com/education/tundra-tales and must be filled out and signed by parents or guardians to show completion of required minutes. The deadline to turn in final tracking sheets is Monday, March 28.
Homeschoolers, virtual schools, after school programs, parent-teacher organizations and families have also participated in the program, and are encouraged to continue doing so.
