Pat Matson, who started six games for the Green Bay Packers in 1975, his 10th and final pro season, died in Cape Coral, Fla., on Sept. 8, 2025. Matson was 81.
Matson, a 6-foot-1, 245-pound guard, was acquired by first-year coach and general manager Bart Starr less than two weeks before the start of the season for what turned out to be a seventh-round draft choice.
Matson started his career in 1966 with the Denver Broncos of the American Football League and then played seven years with the Cincinnati Bengals after being selected in the AFL's 1968 expansion draft. In all, Matson played in 132 AFL and NFL games, including 14 with the Packers. Matson was waived at the start of training camp in 1976.
A family member also reported that Joe Prokop, who punted in nine games for the Packers in 1985 recently died but provided no details.
