I watch almost every game with my three kids each Sunday. No matter what's happening in the game, all they're waiting for is a Packer touchdown so we can dance to "Bang on the Drum." It reminds me that being a fan is supposed to be fun. Granted, losing isn't fun. But I'm afraid all the analyzing and arguing and prognosticating has made us forget the entire point of fandom.
Contrary to popular belief, this is all supposed to be fun.

Can you tell us which reporter opened Matt LaFleur's Friday press conference by asking about Tucker Kraft's leadership (making fun of his blunder the previous day)? That was hilarious. Great to see Matt get such a kick out of it, as well.
That was courtesy of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Dominique Yates. For those who don't know what we're talking about, Dom was caught daydreaming a little on Thursday when he inquired about Kraft's leadership moments after the Wisconsin State-Journal's Paul Bretl asked LaFleur that same question. The Packers head coach was a good sport about it and mentioned how that's a "blackout fine" in the team meeting room. On Friday, Dom comically chose to start by asking once again about Kraft and it had us all laughing. It was a nice presser cleanser.

Packers fans know better than to underestimate Aaron Rodgers. Still, the 41 5/6-year-old QB will fall to his former team. Reasons to believe: 1) Rodgers is good, but past his prime while Jordan Love is ascending. Advantage Love. 2) Green Bay simply has a better defense, and the pass rush will prove to be the difference. 3) GB has two really good kickers, and one of them will play Sunday. 4) Daniel Whelan has been lights out. He will flip the field in his limited opportunities. GPG!
This is the one we've all had circled since the schedule was released – yes, John from Stevens Point when it was released – and the stakes are exceedingly high for a Week 8 non-conference matchup. The Packers want to remain the only one-loss team in the NFC. Meanwhile, Rodgers looks to lift the Steelers to five wins in their first seven while becoming the fifth QB to beat all 32 teams. One way or another, this is a game we'll talk about for a very long time.

Will Green Bay be able to cover Pittsburgh's receiver with Rodgers passing against them on Sunday night?
That's the silent challenge nobody has talked much about this week. Rodgers isn't the only one who looks like his old self. DK Metcalf is again one of the league's most explosive wideouts. As I said earlier this week, the Packers must minimize explosive plays to win this game. Green Bay has the guys to do it but needs to limit the penalties while capitalizing on the few mistakes Rodgers and the Steelers make.

My first-ever Packers game was in 2010, Rodgers' Packers against Brett Favre's Vikings. Rodgers threw three TDs to Greg Jennings, and I saw a Vikings fan throw his Favre jersey down the stands in frustration. I'll be at the game Sunday, and it feels full circle in a way. No question really, just reflecting on the passage of time, and how much has happened since then.
That reality hit me while Rodgers spoke over Zoom with the Green Bay press corps on Thursday afternoon. It seems like yesterday Rodgers was winning his first MVP.

Good morning all! A picture from Thursday's practice shows Malik Willis and Jordan Love locked in a pinky swear moment. Great shot by Madison Morris! Nothing beats a good pinky swear. GPG!
J-Love and his handshakes…and yes, Madison has been an outstanding addition to our photography staff.
The Green Bay Packers held practice on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, in preparation for their Week 8 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I believe this game will be Rodgers' one and only chance to complete the beat-all-32-teams in his career. That would be the fire or chip driving me towards victory if I were AR8. Looking forward to the game, and it has been great to continually hear that Rodgers was kind and professional to Love throughout their time together and that they still text each other. HOF player and person in my book.
Everyone seems to have an opinion on Rodgers and I'm not here to sway you either way. But one thing I'd hope we all can agree on is Rodgers was a model teammate and mentor to Jordan Love. It's not easy to play quarterback in the NFL and it would've been even more difficult if Rodgers shut Love out in 2020. He never did that. Rodgers never obstructed Love's development. In fact, he encouraged it.

Is there a time period a team has to announce its 53-man roster for a game? If so, when is it? Like if Christian Watson is cleared to play, can it be a game-time decision to activate him and put someone on the PS?
Regardless of whether Watson plays in Pittsburgh, he must be added to the active roster by Sunday, the last day before his 21-day practice window closes. With the team flying to Pittsburgh, I'd assume that move will come today/Saturday. Roster moves are due to the NFL office by 3 p.m.

Good morning, I see a lot of flowers being given to the schedule-makers for having the foresight to make the Packers/Steelers game primetime. However, if they would have really been on their game, wouldn't they have made the game in GB? After all, this is probably the last chance to have Aaron Rodgers return to GB as a player. Seems like a huge oversight to me. They were banking on Rodgers signing with the Steelers when they made the schedule, why not go all in?
That's not how it works. It was the Packers' turn to travel to Pittsburgh and Cleveland as part of the NFC North/AFC North schedule rotation. Unless that format changes, the Steelers are next guaranteed to play at Lambeau in 2029.
Joe from Pittsburgh, PA
With the Rodgers return unfortunately not being played at Lambeau, I was curious what the fan reaction to him would have been if the game was indeed played in Green Bay. Hopefully, a more appreciative and classy response than the one that greeted Favre on his return. I guess we'll never know.
I'm confident Rodgers would have received a hero's welcome if this game was played at Lambeau Field. The Favre thing was such a different deal. For as much as we talk about how cool it would've been for this game to be played in Green Bay, it's still going to be an unbelievable atmosphere in the Steel City. You have two of the NFL's grittiest and most-storied franchises squaring off on a chilly October evening. Bring your lunch pails for this one.

I heard a report that the Steelers plan to wear yellow (throwback) helmets. Are they planning to put their logo on only one side? If so, I'm sure Rodgers will look like a Packers throwback from the neck up in any photo on the "non-logo" side. Why are the Steelers the only NFL team without a logo on both sides of the helmet? Maybe that's a question for their own Insiders to know. Can't wait 'til Sunday night!
It sure makes for an interesting viewing experience. As far as the Steelers' one-sided logo, that started in 1962 when equipment manager Jack Hart was instructed by Dan Rooney to put the logo on the right side of the helmet as a test to see how it looked. The organization liked the unique look and stuck with it.

Is Rodgers the GOAT in your book? Brady played with 17 top 10 defenses while Rodgers played with three. One of those was the Super Bowl team, the other two let up 37-plus in a playoff loss. I don't feel like people doubt his talent, but their case against him is the SBs, but it's a team sport for a reason.
Tom Brady won seven Super Bowls, so he probably stands atop most pundits' list of GOATs. I personally believe Rodgers is the best all-around quarterback in NFL history. He could do it all at his position and accomplished everything there is to accomplish. It was a privilege to cover his career for a decade and I'm excited to be there for another chapter Sunday.

How are the rookies looking so far this year? Matthew Golden gets all the hype and TV commentary, and we'll hear about Savion Williams once in a while. I'm not sure I know much about how the rest of the class if holding up.
Unfortunately, most of the rookies have been banged up, but Williams and Barryn Sorrell have had moments, and I don't know if anyone has improved more over the past six months than Anthony Belton. He's a big, athletic man but I've also learned he's unflappable. Given time, I think Belton will be a player on the Packers' O-line.

Do you feel the NFL is getting too offense-happy? Seems like the old adage about the NBA where all you need to do is turn on the game for the last two minutes! On a similar note, like the NBA, it seems as if superstars are needed on offense and defense at the end of games to be the deciding factor. Case in point, Micah Parsons' late sack and Love's fourth-and-2 throw.
We need to protect players, but the NFL's recent emphases go well beyond player safety – especially when they'll call illegal formation on tackles not lining up properly but then miss the Eagles' false starts on the tush push.

Hey II! Following up to the Pete from Caledonia, MI, comment on player-official conflict. While I agree with both the direction of which it's headed (sadly) and your response, I would like to point out many players take their lead from their coach and once again Sean Payton showed who he is as a leader and person just a short time before this "interaction," whether the PI was correct or not. Not really a question but I guess as long as he "wins" his behavior will continue to be accepted!?
NFL exec Troy Vincent told Mike Florio this week Justin Strnad also will be fined for making contact with Brad Allen. It's difficult to see on video to what extent Strnad bumped into Allen amid the chaos, but I struggle to understand why it was necessary for Allen to raise his forearms in Strnad's direction. I'd argue Allen's response to an inadvertent bump is what triggered Dre Greenlaw's reaction.

Mike, I also am blocked from live viewing many games but still appreciate the insight from your blog. I can listen to the play-by-play from a guy in his basement and then read your comments. Works well for me!
That sounds like the dream, Bob.

Do you guys have any deep thoughts on the sports gambling scenario that is unfolding? Any surprise that it was the NBA? Think this will have any effect on the close relationship that has developed between legal gambling platforms and professional sports (NBA and NHL seem to be the worst for this to me)?
These brainiacs are the reason why I gotta do an hour of training before every NFL season on gambling rules. The league makes it simple – if you work for the NFL or any of its 32 clubs, you cannot bet on sports. I don't get why is this so hard? Play some Blackjack on PTO this offseason if you gotta scratch that gambler's itch.

Have you tried the famous Primanti sandwich?
It's fine. I'll eat there if that's where people want to go, but it's not like when I'm in New York and move mountains to get to Via Della Pace in the East Village.

6-7? More like 2-7 am I right? ... Anyways I too am a little stitious. Wearing my Rodgers jersey has typically resulted in positive results, but I can't decide if this is the perfect week to wear it or the worst week to wear it. The cosmic manifestation of this decision could be disastrous. I'm might just have to lean defense and go with the ol' Craig Newsome jersey. Maybe it'll manifest in getting a couple INTs.
Good call on Newsome. If the Packers win one more game with 27 points, I am forcing our social department start a "2-7" trend.

For the first time in two years, I have regained Sundays off at my job. I'm not going to overhype the Packers, and I'm not going to hyper-analyze their flaws. I'm not going to armchair quarterback. I will simply sit at my favorite sports bar, a burger and cheese curds in hand, and be thankful I can once more watch Packers games consistently. I've missed our boys. Go Pack Go!
This is the perfect game not to miss. Folks, we've done a whole lotta talkin' this week. It's time to put on the dancin' shoes and get out there. Enjoy the game.
