Inbox: It is time to play some Packers football again

The true sign of greatness is the ability to rebound

Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers

Corey from Bethlehem, PA

Why does it feel like we haven't played in months? This was the longest bye week ever.

This may have been the slowest two weeks of my nearly 10 years at packers.com. I can only imagine how it felt for the coaches and players. It is time to play some Packers football again.

Bob from Covington, KY

Hi, guys. Seems to me offensive line play will determine the outcome of this game. The Packers need to make some holes for the running game and at least slow down Trey Hendrickson. Might be a tall order given the health issues. And if the Bengals can give Joe Flacco a few seconds to get rid of the ball, they have a plethora or receivers who can inflict punishment. Fingers crossed Mr. Zach Tom, et al, are able to play effectively.

Good things happen when Jordan Love has time to throw and Josh Jacobs lanes to run. Having the preferred starting five on the offensive line would be huge in helping achieve those two things, especially when facing Hendrickson. We'll see what Sunday holds, but obviously it's been a struggle to get that group on the field this season.

Benjamin from Bear, DE

Like the rest of the Packers nation, I look very forward to Josh Jacobs having an explosive game. With that said, is Cincinnati best suited to run against or throw against? I'm anticipating your response saying the run sets up the pass, so we're gonna have a double of passing and offense come Sunday afternoon.

Running the ball will be critical. While the Bengals' 29th-ranked pass defense doesn't have much to hang its hat on, Cincy boasts an opportunistic secondary that's tied for sixth in the NFL with five interceptions. Meanwhile, I think the Bengals' 24th-ranked run defense is better than the stats suggest. Detroit needed 33 carries to amass 118 yards (3.6 yards per carry) last week. If Jacobs can get going early, it will make life much easier for Green Bay to move the ball consistently.

Dale from St. Cloud, WI

With the kicker injury, if the Packers are not sure that he can go on Sunday and want protection, can they call a guy and have him fly to GB? Then if they need him, sign him Saturday night or Sunday morning if Brandon McManus can't go?

Green Bay reportedly brought in a couple kickers for workouts this week. If needed, the Packers have two open spots on the active roster and could sign a kicker. We'll see what moves they make later today, if any.

Mark from Greendale, WI

To all my fellow Packer fans who are worried the team isn't in good hands, listen to Jeff Hafley’s presser. He's spot on with everything he says, takes accountability, expects accountability, is an awesome teacher, mentor, and I'm sure many other things. If he's half of what he preaches in action, I'm not worried in the least.

There's a lot of self-belief and confidence in that room and that starts with Hafley. While the result was disappointing in Dallas, the true sign of greatness is the ability to rebound. Listening to Hafley, Micah Parsons and others speak this week, it's clear the Packers are hungry to remind everyone what they're all about. The defense played two tremendous games at Lambeau Field this year. Here's to a third on Sunday.

Joe from Ashburn, VA

What is next for Micah Parsons?

Hopefully Joe Flacco?

Jeff from Indian Lake, NY

Did we sack Flacco at all in the Browns game? I think in order to win against the Bengals' version, I'd like to see him go down two or three times.

The Packers hit Flacco 10 times but sacked him just twice (both by Rashan Gary). That's gotta change in Round 2.

Caroline from Lacey, WA

How do we contain Flacco from beating us again?

Like I wrote Thursday, I'd think the Cleveland game was more a case of the Browns' defense and Quinshon Judkins beating the Packers. To Flacco's credit, he played the field general role brilliantly. He was very precise and high percentage with his throws. To quote Parsons on Thursday: "The question is how can we show the disguise and make him hold it? That's what it's gonna come down to."

Pete from Gulf Shores, AL

RBs get loaded boxes. WRs and pass rushers get doubled up. CBs rarely see the ball come their way. Such is life for the best who still find ways to impact the game. Do people not understand players like Xavier McKinney impact the game just by being on the field (and taking away the middle)?

It's the old Christopher Walken lion speech from "Poolhall Junkies." There's a lot of hyenas and jackals nipping at McKinney's toes right now and getting comfortable in the lion's domain. I gotta feeling we're close to seeing No. 29 rip some QBs apart. Just give him that chance.

David from Janesville, WI

With the concern over the run defense, and seeing T.J. Slaton is in town anyway, can we find one of his old uniforms and borrow him for the day?

Slaton is off to a nice start for the Bengals with nine tackles and three quarterback hits, which already ties his career high set last season. I thought that was a smart signing for Cincy and he's been one of their better defensive players.

Nicholas from Rochester, NY

What's your take on when Christian Watson will be back on the field playing on a high level? Like what percentage do you think he's at right now to come back healthy?

I couldn't tell ya. I tried to attach a "Wes GPS" to Watson, but he ran away. Matt LaFleur said he looked "pretty damn good" this week, so I assume he's getting close.

Thomas from Madison, WI

No question, just happy to see Jon Runyan in last night's game. Good guy.

Great guy.

Shanna from Corunna, IN

If you need any further proof it's a week-to-week league, look no further than the Giants vs. Eagles game. How 'bout them Eagles?

Maybe they should've tush-pushed more.

Michael from Des Moines, IA

While watching the Eagles do four straight "tush-push" plays to get in the end zone I find myself in a conundrum. I absolutely hate this play, yet have to acknowledge it works. However, on the replay, you clearly see the guards jump early. I don't believe in an all-out ban but what if teams are permitted to challenge false starts on that play alone? To me, it's the league not banning the play but forcing the team using it to be precise to a T.

I'm shocked the officials didn't catch the false start. Speechless.

Robert from Saginaw, MI

A new president and a concert scheduled for 2026 in Lambeau Field. Can we expect to see a yearly concert with Mr. Policy in charge?

I'll let Ed handle the vision for the future in his next "Policy's Perspective," but the Packers' goal is always to bring one big event to Lambeau each year. Obviously, the NFL Draft took centerstage in April. Next year, we not only get Luke Combs in May but also Wisconsin-Notre Dame in September. It's lined up to be a great 2026.

Matt from Janesville, WI

I suppose that in your chosen profession you have met many famous people and are fairly accustomed to it by now. Is there someone in particular that you remember being particularly starstruck with when you met them? How did it happen?

I turned into the biggest fanboy you've ever seen when Megan Olivi was a sideline reporter for Packers-Jaguars last year. She was kind enough to take a photo and chop it up with me about UFC.

Greg from Perkasie, PA

Maybe it's the Philly in me, and no offense to any who have posted having bad experiences at away games, but I feel that you should expect to have some home team fans give you trouble when you're an opposing fan. That's the home team's job. It's home-field advantage. The crowd plays a huge role in that. As a fan it's your job to cheer, be as loud as you can, and give the other team a hard time. You're not there just to quietly watch the game and make sure the other team's fans feel welcome.

Maybe it's the Green Bay in me, but I think you can do one (cheer your team as loud as you can) without the other (giving the other team's fans a hard time). Our society seems to struggle with that whether it's football or daily life.

The Green Bay Packers held practice on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, in preparation for their Week 6 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Joe from Swansea, IL

So, which one of you guys is going to pull Adam Stenavich aside and tell him the proper use of champing at the bit? Couldn't you have stood up in the room at that moment and corrected him?

I only correct people on the improper use of fewer (If you know, you know, Stannis Baratheon fans).

Flavio from Brazil

Is it wrong to be a Packers and a Cubs fan? Asking for a friend...

I only permit Adam Pearce to do such a thing.

Mike from New Orleans, LA

Let's talk about worst game-day experiences! When I was in college in Washington my buddy got us tickets for the game forever known as the "Fail Mary." I had my Donald Driver jersey and Cheesehead on, and during the game nothing terrible happened (possibly because I was clearly with a Hawks fan), but on the walk out, a group of clearly impaired individuals surrounded me, started pushing and stealing my Cheesehead. The Seahawks will now always be my least favorite team.

Well, that wasn't very nice.

Jim from St Pete Beach, FL

Wes, have you had the opportunity to see Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam" in-person? The anatomy of the human brain is hidden within the painting. An amazing work of art!

One day, I hope.

Mark from Westminster, CO

Ooof! Last night's Brewers game was definitely worse than the Packers' tie.

It wasn't great, but we still gotta lotta ballgame left. I'll be in Milwaukee for Game 5 tonight, my first Brewers game in seven years.

Sharon from Lakewood Ranch, FL

Loved the "cutting to the chase" in response to Steven from San Diego and Key West Roger! Don't mess around with the II kid. Tell.it.like.it.is – the modus operandi of the Hod way to quell the cynics in the madding crowd! Subtle slap down on the way out the door appreciated by this fan! Back the Pack to beat the Bengals!

Every once in a while, I gotta crack the knuckles and bang the keyboard a little bit. I appreciated Spoff's follow-up on Friday, too. I'm tired of giving refs a free pass. If this is how the NFL wants games officiated, I'm gonna critique it accordingly.

Al from Green Bay, WI

Sometimes bye week feels like it lasts a month. The Packers are champing at the bit and will rebound nicely. Reasons to believe: 1) The Joe Burrow-less Bengals have been de-clawed a bit. The defense will rally and will not give Flacco the time he needs. 2) Jordan Love. He's playing consistently good football, and he's in command of this offense. 3) Home cookin'. Lambeau has been a great advantage already this year, and it isn't even cold yet. GPG!

There's no place like home, especially when it's the only game at Lambeau Field over a 51-day span.

Larry from Green Valley, AZ

Do you think this year is what Roger Goodell has had in mind for "parity"? No true locks anymore. Thoughts?

Records don't matter once that whistle blows. Enjoy the ballgame(s).
