The Packers have a lot of work to do

Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers

Richard from Madison, WI

Wish we were more ept.

That's as good a way to start today as any.

Johnny from Madison, WI

How many times can the Packers snatch penalties, sacks and turnovers from the jaws of points?

Not bad.

Jeff from Wisconsin Rapids, WI

Million-dollar question! Something is missing from this team, what is it?

Reliable offensive functionality. The lack of it is why two straight home games haven't featured a touchdown until the last six minutes of the game.

Ryan from Milwaukee, WI

Have a seat, I say gesturing to a chair. We really need to talk about this offense…

The similarities between last week's and this week's postgame press conferences were unmistakable. They're running out of things to say.

Jake from Herriman, UT

Teams are staying in two-high shell. Can't run them out of it. Why doesn't it seem like Matt is at all interested in dinking and dunking them to death? There is a lot of ground between the line of scrimmage and 35 yards down field. Yes, they tried those passes occasionally. Commit to it! It can't be worse than the futility we've watched from the run game down after agonizing down.

Dink and dunk is not a style they want to play, clearly, and they aren't good at it. I can only surmise they're not good at it because they don't practice it enough, because it's not how they build their game plans. They want to use Josh Jacobs to set up play-action and find rhythm that way, but they're suffering through too many negative runs, sacks and penalties to be consistently effective. I think many of the errors would happen regardless of the style they play. Maybe they have to make it work with what they're not good at in order to be able to run what they're actually good at, which is a tough row to hoe. Whatever the case, the mistakes must be reduced, and that's been the mantra for weeks now.

Bernie from Midlothian, VA

I said it last week and I will say it again. We are just too predictable. Philadelphia just waited for Jacobs to get the ball and they swarmed him.

It was tough to hear after the game that an Eagles D-lineman was calling out the inside zone run out of shotgun on fourth-and-1. It's both hard to process and a missed opportunity of gigantic proportions.

Brandon from Huntington Beach, CA

*sigh* Why not call a TO on fourth-and-1? I just don't understand the rationale.

Neither do I.

Tim from Fitchburg, WI

Another really tough night to watch the Packers' offense. Three decent defensive performances wasted in their three losses. Hard to tell if the OL is the root cause of the struggles. Other teams have injuries and play through. What are your thoughts on the reason for the continued offensive struggles?

Nobody's performance has been maintained at a high enough standard to win consistently in this league. It's across the board, from the quarterback to the line to the perimeter weapons to the preparation. All-encompassing. The laundry list of mistakes (penalties, turnovers, sacks, missed blocks, dropped passes, etc.) are spread out across every personnel group. I talked a lot last week about the lack of continuity on the offensive line due to injuries, and I think that's a big factor. It always starts in the trenches. Losing Elgton Jenkins for an extended period now won't help matters there. This offense keeps having to overcome its own (stuff) as well as the (stuff) all the other teams deal with, too. That's a rough combo.

Check out photos from the Week 10 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles at Lambeau Field on Monday, Nov. 10, 2025.

Shawn from Colby, WI

Mornin' Spoff. After a two-hour ride home from Lambeau having had time to reflect, I've come to the conclusion that…oh, who am I kidding, I've got nothing other than to say this team is maddening and much about them makes absolutely no sense. Downright infuriating!

Your last 21 words speak more for Packer Nation than I ever could.

Joseph from Madison, WI

During Sirianni's postgame speech to his players, he had a very interesting quote about what it is to be a "team." On how his defense was dominate and picked up the offense, he said "it's sometimes you, sometimes me, but always us." I love that quote. But as far as the Packers are concerned, it begs the question: If it's always you (defense), and never me (offense), at what point does it STOP being "us"? This could be trending towards contempt and discord, no? I mean, it's just human nature.

LaFleur, Jordan Love and others were asked a version of the splintering question and there's zero sign of it or concern about it. It is a challenge for the club's leadership at all levels, though, and it's as big a culture test as it gets.

Larry from New Zealand

Favre's nemesis was the Cowboys, Rodgers' was the 49ers; looks like Love is destined to battle the Eagles.

I guarantee he'd love another shot at them this season, but the Packers have a lot of work to do to make that happen.

Greg from Rowlett, TX

This team is so frustrating to watch. So much talent and so many small mistakes. I know the coaches and players must be down on themselves too. I hope they stay strong and keep on working to improve. The defense was very impressive. Even the lone Eagles touchdown Evan Williams was right there.

The defense broke down for two plays. Two. Anything else it gave up was pretty much a garden-variety gain. The Eagles had scored 28 and 38 points their previous two games and had a bye to study the Packers' defense. The defense didn't just orchestrate a winning performance, it borderline dominated the Super Bowl champs, aside from two plays, and one missed throw by Hurts down the seam. It's an absolute shame the Packers couldn’t find a way to win this game.

John from Tulsa, OK

It's year 2.5 of the JLove experiment. His arm is fine when he has time. But he looks scared in the pocket, has strangely low escape skills, doesn't see the field well at all, doesn't seem to grasp down-and-distance needed, and makes two or three horrible decisions with the ball in every game. Is he fixable? If not we're in for a rough four years at $55 million per. Kinda makes me wonder how No. 12 would have done with this defense backing him.

Love needs to play better. Won't deny that. But I disagree with some of those blanket statements about his game. I see a developing QB getting caught up in the overall offensive desperation (or frustration or exasperation, whatever you want to call it) and it's affecting him. He can't let it. That's when his mistakes happen, trying to do too much. But he also needs better support around him. Love hasn't committed a penalty, dropped a pass or missed a block. He's had his miscues, and he's not at the level he can make everyone else's go away. Let's not forget it was just two weeks ago he completed 20 straight passes and put up 28 points in the second half in a city the Packers hadn't won a game in since before I was born (and I'm getting old, man). That's an impossible standard to meet every time, but the rocky patches need to smooth out.

John from Los Angeles, CA

Has the coaching staff given any insight on why we didn't go for a Hail Mary? Brandon McManus has been unreliable and is maybe injured, so why ask him to kick a FG 3 yards longer than his career best in a cold-weather game that he couldn't get enough on during his "free kick"? I know the calls are easy to make from the armchair, but am I missing something here?

I don't know what to tell you. LaFleur said he definitely thought about the Hail Mary. Said he was given information McManus was close on the 64-yarder. I thought from the practice kick it was obvious he had no chance to make it.

Kevin from Federal Way, WA

The offense is clearly in a world of hurt right now. Can't run the ball and defenses are starting to just sit in shell until we figure it out. That said, what are the thoughts on Bo Melton playing so many snaps at WR? Malik Heath has played very well this year and he seemed to be behind Bo on the depth chart. Seemed like an odd choice.

I can only assume the injuries Heath (hip) and Savion Williams (foot) are dealing with, on top of Romeo Doubs (chest) leaving the game, led to such an extensive offensive role for Melton.

Jeff from Green Bay, WI

Packers are 1-3 when holding opponents to 16 points or less. Rest of the NFL? 63-5.

Woof.

Dan from Augusta, KS

I guess no one let the Bills know only the Packers can lose to an inferior team on a Sunday after a big game. It's also good that transitive properties are considered math and therefore cannot be brought up in the Inbox or we would have real problems dealing with the Panthers losing to the Saints.

Ya think?

Joe from Bozeman, MT

So were the Saints a trap game for the Panthers?

Ha, also nicely done.

William from Charleston, WV

When the NBA gambling scandal broke, I asked II the question, "When will it come to the NFL?" The question didn't get published. Now there's an MLB gambling scandal. So, I'll ask again, "When will it come to the NFL?" With the illicit marriage between the NFL and online betting, it seems inevitable, and probably sooner than later. Thoughts?

I don't know the answer to your question, but just because I didn't publish it doesn't mean I haven't been sounding the alarm bells in this very column for, oh, several years now.

Bubba from Kenosha, WI

USC backup QB Sam Huard wore punter Sam Johnson's No. 80 jersey to carry out a fake punt. Is this legal in the NFL?

Uh, no. What USC did with the number switcheroo is the height of bush league. Gimme a break. That entire program should be embarrassed and ashamed of itself.

Tucker from Belton, TX

There is seemingly no team who gets better luck this year than the Bears. On the brink of being run out of the building by the 2-7 Giants before Dart goes down. At least the Vikings blew it behind EIGHT false starts at home.

The Giants have beaten the Chargers and Eagles at home. They've blown four double-digit, second-half leads on the road, and it cost the NFL's 2022 Coach of the Year his job. Another very interesting game is already almost upon us. This league never sleeps.

Chris from Gridley, CA

Time for the Giants! What do you expect to see from their team among their coaching turmoil?

A lot will hinge on whether Jaxson Dart can play. He was going to beat the Bears, I think handily, if he doesn't fumble and get concussed on the same play.

Riley from Waukesha, WI

Oh, there are "Breaking Bad" fans. "Better Call Saul" ones too. Vince doesn't miss and not that this has anything to do with the Packers, but the first two episodes of his new show "Pluribus" have been absolutely phenomenal.

I'm gonna have to dive in. After "BCS," I could watch Rhea Seehorn play any character. Captivating performer.

Brian from Urbana, IL

Watching this team is like watching a Shakespearean tragedy. It's a hell of a thing to watch, and a lot of bad $#/÷ happens throughout. You just wanna scream at the players to make different decisions. But there's some beautiful parts, and I can't look away.

As an English major, I should have something really clever or insightful to reply here. But I'm just too exhausted. Sorry.

Kevin from Chemung, IL

Well, that was exciting and exasperating right through to the end. Sad to see the Pack stumble to third place in the division, but it's a crazy game and the season isn't over yet. Perhaps they can find a way to overcome their penchant for beating themselves and start beating their opponents. Perhaps not. But really, what can we as fans do other than watch?

It's Tuesday.
