GREEN BAY – Former Packers receiver James Jones announced his retirement after nine NFL seasons Wednesday.

The 6-foot-1, 208-pound receiver spent eight seasons in Green Bay, where he ranks the 10th in franchise history in career receptions (360), 12th in receiving yards (5,195) and ninth in receiving touchdowns (45).

After re-signing with the Packers in 2015, Jones posted career-highs in both receiving yards (890) and yards per catch (17.8).

In a post announcing his decision, Jones thanked Head Coach Mike McCarthy, General Manager Ted Thompson and west region scout Sam Seale for taking a chance on him.

"I have truly been blessed to have worked with such wonderful people throughout my career," Jones wrote. "I would personally like to thank the entire Packers Organization, Packer Nation and particularly Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy and Sammy Seale.  I would also like to thank the Raiders Organization, my agents at Sun West Sports, Frank Bauer and Kenny Chapman, and everyone who believed in my talents which allowed me to continue playing the sport I love. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support and love from my wonderful mother, Janet Jones, my grandmother, Gram (Bernice Calhoun) and my beautiful wife, Tamika Jones."

Jones recently accepted a position with the NFL Network and plans to continue his charitable organization, Love Jones 4 Kids, which provides financial support to homeless shelters.
