Michalkiewicz named Packers High School Coach of the Week

The Green Bay Packers have announced that Chad Michalkiewicz of De Pere High School has been named Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week.

Michalkiewicz, in his third year as the head coach of De Pere, led the Redbirds to a 36-14 victory over Manitowoc Lincoln High School. Friday's victory gave the Redbirds their seventh in a row and landed them in a tie for second place in the Fox River Classic Conference. Michalkiewicz's team will now travel to Ashwaubenon on Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. for the first round of the 2014 WIAA Football Playoffs.

"After some injuries to our team at the start of the season, we were able to rally and rattle off seven straight victories after a 0-2 start," said Michalkiewicz. "This Friday, we're facing a familiar opponent in Ashwaubenon. Though we haven't played them since 2011, we feel that we match up well and I think it's going to be a very exciting game."

A Green Bay, Wis. native, Michalkiewicz is a 2004 graduate of Green Bay Southwest High School, where he played defensive end under coach Scott Mallien. After high school, he attended Lawrence University, where he played outside linebacker. After transferring to Winona State in 2005, he began his coaching career as an assistant for Cotter (Minn.) High School and Winona State. Upon graduating in 2009, he spent time coaching for Northwestern University and the Green Bay Blizzard before accepting his current position in 2012. He is also the school's alternative education teacher.

Michalkiewicz and his staff oversee a program of 175 players, including a varsity roster of 58. His staff includes Chad Ashmann, Riley Knapp, Ty Knott, Robbie McMenomy, Christopher Paquet, Jason Sullivan and Tim Trupke.

Michalkiewicz has a fiancé, Tracie Allen, and they plan to get married this December.
