The Packers have announced that Nick Stormoen of Adams-Friendship High School has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week.
Stormoen, in his sixth year as the varsity head coach of Adams-Friendship, led the Green Devils to a 34-7 victory over Mauston High School, on Friday, Oct. 7. With the win, the team remains unbeaten at 8-0 in their quest for their first undefeated season in school history. Adams-Friendship will now host Nekoosa High School at home on Oct. 14. The winner of the game will be crowned the South Central Conference Champions, as both schools are 4-0 in conference play.
"This last week we had one of our biggest matchups of the year coming into Week 8. Mauston is a good team that was picked to be right up there in the conference with us," Stormoen said. "We had some really special players make some big plays early and that really set the tone for us.
"Next week we have Nekoosa for all the marbles. It's a conference championship game like the big boys play. They're 4-0, we're 4-0, and we have to get ready to go get them."
Stormoen grew up in Cudahy, Wis. He attended Cudahy High School, where he participated in football and baseball. As a member of the Cudahy Packers, Stormoen played safety and wide receiver for Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame members, Carey Venne and Jeffrey Cavanaugh. Following his graduation from Cudahy in 1999, Stormoen went on to receive his bachelor's degree in Social Studies from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2004.
Stormoen began his coaching career at his alma-mater, Cudahy High School in 2004. After three years of coaching at Cudahy, he would go on to coach for two years at Wilmot Union High School in southern Wisconsin. Stormoen was then hired as an assistant coach at Adams-Friendship for one year before being promoted to the head coaching position in 2011.
"This is more of a team award than anything," Stormoen said. "My coaching staff has really been helpful. I could never do it without them. As far as the players go, a lot goes on these guys. There needs to be more recognition to this pretty special senior class that we have going here."
Stormoen and his staff oversee a program of 43 players, including 35 players that play at the varsity level. His assistant staff includes Jason West, Owen Riese, Nick Nelson, Jon Brost, Luke Thompson and Jered Massen.
In addition to coaching football, Stormoen is also a Social Studies teacher at Adams-Friendship High School.
Stormoen and his wife, Samantha, have two daughters, Brooklyn and Lexi. "I could never do this without my wife," Stormoen added. "She really carries the load for the family while I'm coaching all fall."
