The Green Bay Packers announced promotions and an addition to the player personnel department. The announcements were made Wednesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
Mike Owen, who is entering his 14th season with the club, has been promoted to national scout after working as a college scout since joining the Packers in 2012. Prior to joining Green Bay, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Riverhead (N.Y.) High School, where he coached tight ends and helped with linebackers. Owen was a four-year letterman (2006-09) at Syracuse University, where he played tight end, defensive end and linebacker and was elected as a team captain as a senior.
Daric Whipple has been promoted to pro scout after working as a scouting assistant for Green Bay since 2023. He originally joined the Packers' personnel department in the summer of 2022 as an intern. Whipple played wide receiver for Iowa State University (2016-19) and Northern Iowa University (2020-22).
Sam Fleming, who originally joined the Packers as a scouting intern for the 2023 training camp, has been promoted to pro scout after working for Green Bay as a scouting assistant since June 2024. From 2021-24, he worked as a scouting assistant for National Football Scouting (NFL Scouting Combine) in Indianapolis. After playing wide receiver for Samford University (2016-19) Fleming worked for the Bulldogs as a player personnel assistant (2020) and as the director of football operations (2021).
Connor Koch (kotch) has been promoted to an area scout (Northeast) after working as a scouting intern for the Packers during the 2024 season. Prior to joining the Packers, he spent three years in player personnel and recruiting at the collegiate level, serving as the director of player personnel at the University of Alabama Birmingham in 2023 and held the same title at Samford University in 2021. Koch was also a recruiting and personnel specialist at Ole Miss in 2022. He played linebacker at TCU (2017-19) and Samford (2021).
Dan Zegers originally started with the Packers at the age of 14 as an equipment assistant (2004-12) and also worked in Green Bay's scouting department (2007-13). He rejoins the Packers as scouting coordinator after working for the Cleveland Browns as the personnel coordinator (2018-19) and as an area scout (2020-25). Prior to his time with the Browns, the De Pere, Wisconsin native spent five seasons in the personnel department of the Kansas City Chiefs as a personnel assistant (2013-17) and college scouting coordinator (2017-18).
