Packers, Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield kick off school year with Fit Kids Ticket Giveaway Contest

Fourth grade students can win tickets to Nov. 10 game at Lambeau Field

The Green Bay Packers and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield are teaming up for the third consecutive year to bring health tips and stories from the team to fourth grade classrooms across the state through the "Fit Kids" program.

Fit Kids is a free, year-long fourth grade curriculum for schools in Wisconsin designed to promote healthy living by focusing on the physical, nutritional and social aspects of good health. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is the presenting sponsor of the program.

As a part of its support for Fit Kids, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is giving away 70 tickets for the Nov. 10 game versus the Philadelphia Eagles at Lambeau Field to 35 fourth graders through an essay and poster contest. To enter the contest, fourth grade students from schools in Wisconsin must write an essay or make a poster that describes what they do to stay healthy.

A total of 35 winners will be chosen. Each winning student will be awarded two tickets – one for them and one for their parent or guardian who will accompany them to the game. The winners will be seated in the new Festival Foods MVP Deck and their tickets will include food and beverage throughout the game.

Complete contest rules and the official entry form can be found at Packers.com/FitKids. All entries must be received by Friday, Oct. 25, 2013.

Through the Fit Kids program and ticket contest, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and the Packers are working to raise awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyles and to bring the positive health messages to Wisconsin classrooms.

"Green Bay Packers Fit Kids presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield gives students an opportunity to learn about the importance of healthy, active lifestyles directly from their favorite team and players," said Larry Schreiber, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. "We've been overwhelmed by the response to previous ticket giveaway contests, and look forward to this year's winners bringing their own brand of healthy cheering to Lambeau Field in Week 10."

Each month, the Fit Kids curriculum explores a new health-focused topic, including: Get Together, Get Out, Get Fueled, Get Cooking, Get Moving, Get Bendy, Get Happy and Get Fit. Green Bay Packers players kick off each new section with a video encompassing the theme for that month and appear on various posters and program materials.

"Fit Kids is a great way to get kids excited about living a healthy lifestyle because they get to hear about it directly from our players," said Jessica Micke, Packers community outreach coordinator. "The program is an important part of the work that we do in Wisconsin and we are pleased to once again help improve the health of the next generation of Packers fans."

Fit Kids was developed in 2004 by several educators in the Green Bay Area Public School District, with support from the Green Bay Packers, CBS 5 WFRV-TV and the Karma Group. Several other districts adopted the program for the 2005-06 school year and in 2006-07 the program rolled out statewide.

Currently in its 10th year, Fit Kids has been adopted by more than 335 public school districts in the state, with thousands of students receiving the benefit of the successful curriculum. Within these districts, the program has been used by fourth-grade classroom teachers, physical education teachers and school nurses, and integrated into their lesson plans.

Parents, teachers and school district officials can learn more about Fit Kids and can register their classrooms by visiting the Fit Kids page on Packers.com (Packers.com/FitKids).
