The Green Bay Packers Foundation announced this week they have awarded a $10,000 NFL Foundation Mental Health Grant to Wellpoint Care Network in Milwaukee.

The grant will be used toward providing trauma-informed mental health services to K-12 youth in underserved communities and communities of color. Wellpoint Care Network offers school-based mental health services in 51 locations throughout Milwaukee County and the surrounding areas.

Wellpoint Care Network is a community-facing, human-serving organization with deep roots in Milwaukee that partners with thousands of families to help them overcome the effects of generations of trauma and adversity. The organization offers trauma-informed mental health services and promotes healing through comprehensive prevention, intervention and crisis resources. They champion stability, heal the effects of trauma, advance equity, advocate for just and caring systems and are committed to being a safe place for people to seek support.

"We deeply appreciate the generosity of the Packers Foundation in stepping forward to provide funding for our mental health programming," said Ann Leinfelder Grove, President and CEO of Wellpoint Care Network. "In these times, the need for mental health care continues to grow and the stigma continues to diminish, so access to care is enhanced. The Packers' understanding of how essential the health and well-being of young people is to the success of our communities is deeply appreciated. The Packers Foundation has been a great partner to us in recent years in funding our mission and being interested in the work we are doing throughout southeast Wisconsin."

The grant, awarded through the Packers Foundation and the NFL Foundation, is a social justice grant aimed at addressing the digital divide and/or mental health in communities of color. These grants are intended for programs that address barriers to opportunity in two key areas of social justice impact: the digital divide and mental health. Access to mental health support and resources is historically lacking in underserved communities and communities of color. Grant funds can be used to support nonprofits or medical institutions that offer programs to address this lack of resources.
