The Green Bay Packers and Mike McCarthy, through the McCarthy Family Foundation, have once again partnered to make their annual donations.
The Mike and Jessica McCarthy Golf Tournament, sponsored by the Green Bay Packers, supports the American Family Children's Hospital at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The hospital is a comprehensive pediatric medical and surgical center treating everything from cardiology to cancer. Through the efforts of the Packers and the McCarthy Family Foundation, the event raised more than $167,000.
"It truly was an honor to host the event and assist families that depend upon the hospital for their care," McCarthy said. "This also will help give financial support for patient programs, family support services, specialized equipment and future facility enhancement. Overall, we're very happy to partner with the Packers to help the hospital fulfill its mission to provide the best of care for every child and family who enters its doors."
"We are truly humbled to have been approached by Coach McCarthy and his wife Jessica for the visit," said University of Wisconsin's American Family Children's Hospital program manager Jim Gilmore. "We are touched when Coach and Jessica go room to room and visit with each of the patients and their families. They truly lift everyone's spirits. Coach McCarthy is a guy that walks the walk and talks the talk, and his visit is always so empowering. We can't thank Coach and Jessica enough."
For the fourth consecutive year, the Packers and the McCarthy Family Foundation partnership made a $100,000 donation to the Greenfield Neighborhood, the Pittsburgh-area neighborhood in which McCarthy grew up. Three neighborhood organizations receive the benefit of the donation: St. Rosalia Academy, the Greenfield Baseball Association and the Greenfield Organization.
Also for the fourth year, the Packers and McCarthy partnered to donate $100,000 to Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., McCarthy's alma mater. The donation will continue to aid the football program through its support of an endowment for a football scholarship in McCarthy's name. The scholarship, established in 2008, specifically will go to an incoming junior college athlete, like McCarthy was, who demonstrates the potential to make a meaningful impact on the program.
In addition to Greenfield Neighborhood and Baker University, previous donations from the Packers and McCarthy in the amount of $100,000 benefitted the Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay, the Autism Society of Northeast Wisconsin (ASNEW) and the Green Bay-based Seven Loaves Project.
