Packers name Jason Wahlers director of public relations

The Green Bay Packers named Jason Wahlers director of public relations, Jason Wied, Packers vice president of administration/general counsel, announced today.

Wahlers, a Green Bay native, joins the Packers after nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002-10).

"We're excited to welcome Jason to the Packers and lead our public relations staff," said Wied. "His experience and personality is an excellent fit for the organization and the community. He will foster great relationships internally with all our staff, and externally with local and national media, which will be crucial moving forward."

Wahlers, 33, most recently worked as the Buccaneers' public relations manager for six years (2005-10), serving as the main media relations contact for players and assistant coaches. His role also saw him as a principal contact for the National Football League and broadcast networks, in addition to working closely with team management. He also served as the Buccaneers' public relations coordinator for two years (2003-04) after starting with the team as an intern during the club's Super Bowl XXXVII championship season in 2002. His other NFL experience includes work with NFL Europe's Amsterdam Admirals (spring of 2002) and the Denver Broncos (2001).

In Wisconsin, his professional experience includes time with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Baseball Club (1999-2000), where he served as group sales manager after roles in promotions, marketing, public relations and ticketing. He earned a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University (1999) and a master's degree from Ohio University (2001).

Wahlers joins a staff that includes Aaron Popkey, Sarah Quick, Tom Fanning and Jonathan Butnick.

"We've got an excellent staff in place and Jason will greatly complement them. I am very confident the group is going to continue to serve the organization well," said Wied.

Wahlers will begin his duties with the Packers within the next two weeks.
