The Green Bay Packers and Sargento – the Official Cheese of the Packers – are teaming up to host a Touchdowns for Hunger drive-through food drive at Lambeau Field on Tuesday, Oct. 28. Since it began in 2003, the Sargento 'Touchdowns for Hunger' program has provided more than $1.9 million in hunger relief in Wisconsin thanks to Packers touchdowns.
Community members are encouraged to stop by Lambeau Field Lot 4 between 2 and 7 p.m. to donate nonperishable food items. Donations will be collected by Packers and Sargento employees and will be donated to Paul's Pantry in Green Bay. Drivers should enter Lot 4 off Lombardi Avenue and follow signage through the parking lot toward the yellow Sargento semi-truck to drop off donation items.
All nonperishable donations are welcomed. Items most needed include:
- Protein sources such as canned meats, seafood, poultry and peanut butter
- Canned fruit in light syrup
- Canned vegetables
- Canned soups
- Whole grains including pasta and cereal
With the holiday season approaching, Thanksgiving-specific items such as cranberry sauce, stuffing and gravy are also in high demand.
Media availability will take place at 4 p.m., with Sargento Chairman and CEO Louie Gentine, Packers offensive lineman Donovan Jennings, Paul's Pantry Assistant Executive Director Bob Hornacek and Hunger Task Force Chief Strategy Officer Jonathan Hansen available to speak on the event and its impact. Local radio personalities Otis Day and Katie Schurk will broadcast live from Lambeau Field Lot 4 between 3 and 5 p.m. to encourage community participation.
As part of the Touchdowns for Hungerâ„¢ program, Sargento donates a total of $2,000 for every touchdown that the Packers score during the regular season. Each donation made by Sargento is shared by Paul's Pantry and Hunger Task Force.
