Packers sign five tryout players

The Green Bay Packers signed T Shea Allard, WR Jarrett Boykin, G Grant Cook, WR Curenski Gilleylen and CB Otis Merrill, and waived T Chris Campbell. The transactions were announced Monday by Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations.

Each of the signed players participated in the team's rookie orientation camp this past weekend.

Allard (Al-urd), 22, was a three-year starter at left tackle for the Blue Hens, appearing in 42 career games with 33 starts. He earned first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors as a senior and third-team All-CAA recognition as a junior. In 2010, he was part of a Delaware squad that shared the conference title and advanced to the national championship game.

Boykin (pictured), 22, finished his career as Virginia Tech's all-time leader in receptions (184) and receiving yards (2,884). He set a single-season school mark with 61 receptions as a senior for 761 yards (12.5 avg.) and five TDs. Boykin also led the team in receiving as a junior with 53 catches for 847 yards (16.0 avg.) and six TDs and as a sophomore with 40 receptions for 835 yards (20.9 avg.) and five scores.

Cook, 23, started all 13 games at guard for the Razorbacks as a senior and was part of a line that allowed the offense to break 16 single-game or season school records. For his career, he appeared in 42 games with 20 starts and blocked for two 1,000-yard rushers and a 3,000-yard passer.

Gilleylen (Cur-en-skee Gill-uh-len), 23, played in 30 games with two starts at Nebraska. He was limited to just eight games in 2010-11, but caught 17 passes for 302 yards (17.8 avg.) and a TD as a sophomore in '09.

Merrill, 23, was a second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference selection as a senior when he registered 41 tackles, four passes defensed, an interception and a forced fumble. He played in 32 games with 15 starts during his three seasons at Illinois State after playing one season at the University of Wisconsin.
