The Green Bay Packers have signed linebacker Maurice Simpkins. The signing was announced Tuesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

A first-year player out of Coastal Carolina, Simpkins played for the Green Bay Blizzard of the Indoor Football League in 2010. He earned first-team All-IFL honors and was named the league's Most Improved Player.

A 6-foot, 236-pound player, Simpkins will wear No. 53.

The team also announced it placed cornerback Josh Bellon injured reserve.
