The Green Bay Packers have signed QB Scott Tolzien to the active roster from the practice squad and signed WR Alex Gillett to the practice squad. The transactions were announced Wednesday by Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations Ted Thompson.

Tolzien (toll-ZEEN), a 6-foot-2, 213-pound third-year player out of the University of Wisconsin, was signed to Green Bay's practice squad on Sept. 2, where he spent the first nine weeks of the season. He entered the league as a non-drafted free agent with the San Diego Chargers in 2011. Following the 2011 preseason, Tolzien was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco 49ers, where he was a member of the 53-man roster for both the 2011 and 2012 seasons, but did not appear in a game.

Gillett (jill-LET), a 6-foot-1, 214-pound rookie out of Eastern Michigan, signed with the Packers as a non-drafted free agent on May 22 and was with the club until he was released on Aug. 26. He played in 45 games with 33 starts during his college career, with 30 of the starts coming at quarterback and three at wide receiver. Gillett will wear No. 1 for the Packers.
