Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, and the Green Bay Packers are teaming up to invite fans to help victims of domestic violence in Wisconsin.
On Monday, November 4, prior to the nationally televised Monday Night Football game, used wireless phones and accessories will be collected for the Verizon Wireless HopeLineSM program at all five Lambeau Field gate entrances. The phone collection will begin at 6 p.m. and will last until game time.
Through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program, used wireless handsets, batteries and accessories from any wireless company are collected, refurbished, recycled, and/or sold. Proceeds are donated to non-profit domestic violence advocacy organizations and used to purchase handsets for domestic violence victims, including those throughout Wisconsin.
"This program enables our fans to donate a wireless phone they are no longer using and turn it into a lifeline for a member of the community," said Bob Harlan, president of the Green Bay Packers. "We know we can count on our fans to help out and truly make a difference for domestic violence victims by bringing their old phones to Lambeau Field on November 4."
"Together with the Packers, we've created a winning situation," said Tracy Nolan, president of Verizon Wireless' Wisconsin/Illinois Region. "It's important that domestic violence prevention and advocacy agencies and the victims they serve have access to the HopeLine program."
The company's HopeLine program was created in 1995 to put wireless products and services to work to combat domestic violence. In the past two years alone, the company has donated more than 7,200 phones and $1 million to this cause.
As a major gate sponsor of Lambeau Field, Verizon Wireless has also joined forces with the Packers in other initiatives supporting domestic violence awareness and prevention. These include:
- Verizon Wireless is donating $25 for every point the Packers score this season to a domestic violence shelter, organization, or program in Wisconsin. With the Packers' 6-1 start this season, $4,750 has been raised so far.
- Verizon Wireless has produced a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) featuring Marco Rivera and his wife, Michelle, to build awareness for and reduce instances of domestic violence throughout Wisconsin. The PSA is being shown on the Lambeau Field jumbotron during each Packers home game and has been distributed to television stations statewide for broadcast this fall and winter.
