Brett Hundley getting extra practice time with Packers' pass-catchers

GREEN BAY – The Packers are dedicating extra time this week to help streamline their pass-catchers' transition from Aaron Rodgers to Brett Hundley at quarterback.

The Packers had their tight ends stay after Wednesday's practice to work with Hundley on routes and plan to incorporate an extended period with the third-year quarterback and the receivers during Thursday's padded session.

Due to brisk winds Wednesday in Green Bay, Head Coach Mike McCarthy moved practice inside the Don Hutson Center to make sure Hundley's passes were thrown on time with Sunday's forecast calling for moderate 60-degree weather and only a slight wind.

The adjustment gives Hundley – operating mainly with the scout-team offense all season – an opportunity to get used to throwing to Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams.

"Time clock," said McCarthy during his pre-practice news conference Thursday. "Anytime you're talking about timing passing game, the precision and rhythm of the quarterback and receivers is obviously a key component of the success of your pass game. Not only the timing of the ball as far as how it's thrown or within the footwork, (but also) the experience and level of the quarterback."

Rookie linebacker Vince Biegel looked good in his first practice with the Packers Wednesday, according to McCarthy. While the Wisconsin Rapids native remains on the physically unable to perform list, Biegel will practice in pads Thursday and is working his way into defensive team drills.

Safety Morgan Burnett (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, but is scheduled to be in "limited mode" Thursday during the Packers' pre-practice program.

Starting tackles David Bakhtiari (hamstring) and Bryan Bulaga (concussion) were limited Wednesday. The Packers will take the full week to determine their availability for Sunday's game against New Orleans.

"It's going to take the full week of practice," McCarthy said. "Bryan is in a different spot than David. They'll both work in different capacities today. That's always our focus, particularly guys coming back from injury."
