The Green Bay Packers have announced that Brock Pahlow of Shiocton High School in Shiocton, Wis., has been named the Packers High School Coach of the Week.
Coach Pahlow, in his ninth season as head coach at Shiocton, has the Chiefs out to a perfect 5-0 record, their first 5-0 start since 2013. After finishing as the state runner-up in 2022, Shiocton High won just seven total games over the next three seasons. However, under Pahlow's leadership, the Chiefs have rediscovered their stride. They are currently ranked No. 3 in Division 7 in the Bound Wisconsin Coaches Poll, driven by a philosophy they call "Shiocton Pride."
"Shiocton Pride has been at the forefront of our program," Pahlow said. "We're focused on taking pride in who we are, what we do and how we do things. You can't control winning and success as much as you'd like to, but what we can control is how we prepare for it. We can control our effort and attitude, which are easy to say coaching-wise, but how do you promote those things?
"We do lots of intrasquad competitions and reward guys on their behaviors. Are they doing the little things, are they in the offseason weight room, volunteering, being present at practice and install? It's not all what you do on Friday nights, but it's who you are every day and taking pride in how you do things."
This idea of "Shiocton Pride" is also seen in the time that Coach Pahlow and his team spend giving back to the community.
"This year was a huge indicator of how much it means to be involved in our community," said Pahlow. The Shiocton community was hit hard by a flood this past spring that heavily affected its residents. The football program stepped in to help.
"We had all our guys helping any way they could," Pahlow said. "Packing and hauling sandbags, clearing out flooded homes, and doing it with speed and pride."
Shiocton football also volunteers with the Appleton Challenger League where they help athletes with special needs play football. "Putting others first, it's just huge for our guys. It paves the way for them down the road as they become fathers and husbands to put others first when they are in need, whether that be in their own community or elsewhere."
Pahlow grew up in Shiocton, Wis., and graduated from Shiocton High School in 2010, where he played on the defensive and offensive line for the Chiefs under head coach Dino Heinemeyer, earning all-conference and all-district player honors. Pahlow went on to attend Michigan Tech University where he played defensive line under head coach Tom Kearly before graduating in 2015. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Shiocton before being named the head coach at his alma mater in 2017.
Pahlow is honored and humbled to win the Coach of the Week award but remains focused on helping his athletes succeed in life.
"Our biggest drive and focus are making sure our guys succeed and become good men. It's not just wins and losses, but what are they doing in their lives to benefit them and those around them? Not just their teammates, but their families and their futures, and how we can continue to help our guys improve in all areas so they can one day help others. We have a lot of talented athletes but, most importantly, we have a lot of great kids."
Pahlow and his staff oversee a program of 40 players, giving every athlete the opportunity to suit up for varsity games. His assistant coaches are Luis Leon, Devin Jennerjohn and Ben Taylor.
Aside from coaching, Pahlow owns and operates Pahlow Masonry in Shiocton alongside his father. He and his wife, Faith, have three children: a son, Dexton, and two daughters, Piper and Rhea.
