Hey everybody, thanks for logging on today. Go ahead and start sending in your questions and I'll get started soon.
Afternoon Mike! What's the forecast for Arizona Sunday?
Mid-80s it seems. Typical for out there. We'll see what that means with their roof.
Would love to have Mike "mic'd up" during the live blog! That'd be hilarious!
Comedy gold for sure.
Always exciting when the Packers come out here to play my hometown team. I think we're going to get a motivated Cardinals team that will be trying to turn their season around before their bye next week. What do you think the Packers need to do to extend Arizona's losing streak?
It always starts with protecting the football. But the biggest key to me given these last two games is the defense being able to rebound from a bad possession. Can't let things snowball on that side.
Mike. RE: Devonte Wyatt coming back and the defense from inbox today. I think it's more about DL depth than Wyatt specifically. I think we're thin there and any help would be a benefit. MLF seemed to sorta say the same Monday when we wondered out loud if conditioning was part of the D fading a little in the second half more than once.
I won't dismiss that but by the same token the defense was only on the field for 8 minutes in the first half. Nobody should've been tired after just one long drive to start the second half.
I haven't watched or even heard much about Arizona. How do the two teams match up?
We don't know who's playing QB for AZ yet but the last thing to look at with this team is its 2-4 record. These 4 straight losses for the Cardinals have all been agonizing, 3 of them against good teams, and they could've won any of them.
Hi Mike, A little concerned with the Offensive line play. With the injuries and the inconsistency along with the trade deadline looming, should be looking at picking someone up one to solidify the unit or at a minimum, as an Insurance piece?
I'm not sure on that. I think they like what Darian Kinnard has given them in a pinch, and Jacob Monk is on his way back from injury as an interior backup. Plus Anthony Belton was just back on the practice field today from his ankle injury.
Do you still think that Luke Musgrave has a bright future? It seems he doesn't contribute much.
I'm willing to be patient with a player who's had a horrible run of injuries his first two seasons and on an offense that has plenty of other weapons.
Hi Mike, I'm wondering with Lucas Havrisik still on the roster and them releasing McNamee, if you've heard how Brandon McManus is doing health-wise? Is it something more serious, or are they just giving a good dude more of a chance?
They're playing the high side of caution with McManus because there are so many games left with no bye week. He didn't appear to be practicing today when I was just out there. Havrisik was doing some kicking drills.
Christian Watson doing team work this week?
We don't get to see the 11-on-11 during reg. season practice so I don't know, but I'm sure we'll ask him in the locker room.
How hard is it to prepare to face either Kyler Murray or Jacoby Brissett? Murray can hurt you with his legs and off schedule throws but the Cardinals offense looked better under Brissett and his pocket presence against Indy.
As LaFleur said this morning, it's a challenge prep-wise because they're two very different QBs. The Packers did a great job containing Murray at Lambeau last year so I would imagine they'll lean on some of those plans. Brissett almost beat the Colts on the road and threw for 100 more yards than Murray has in any game this year. This team won't be easy to take down regardless.
Zach Tom forgot parts of the second half due to extreme pain. I cannot begin to imagine….
He wasn't practicing today which wasn't a surprise.
Do you think there is something the Packers need to change from a travel routine that might improve their road readiness?
Readiness? They've started both road games thus far just fine. It's been the finish, in all phases really at Cleveland and on defense in Dallas. They've come out ready to play.
Last year, if I remember correctly, the defense struggled a bit in the first half and was pretty lockdown in the second half. This year it's been the opposite. I'm not overreacting to the defense at all. As long as they are trending up late in the season, that's all that matters. It was an uneasy feeling having the general consensus crowning GB as Super Bowl favorites after two weeks anyway.
All those doing the crowning are clowns as far as I'm concerned. The NFL season is a marathon. The defense does have some issues to figure out, but as I said in Inbox this morning, it's nothing to panic or feel desperate about. Just get to work.
Hi Mike. I'd be curious to know the total percentage of total targets should directed at Tucker Kraft and Matthew Golden combined per game ? 30 ? 35 ? Seems like we're not utilizing our two top YAC receivers Thanks
That's not how LaFleur goes about it. If you listen to his pressers, the coverage dictates where the ball goes, and that's how Jordan Love plays his most efficient ball. He'll have plays designed for certain guys as the primary read, but that doesn't mean the ball is going there if the defense is taking away the primary. It's Love's job to go through the progressions, not try for so many targets for this guy or that.
TE's have given the Pack trouble as of late. How do you think they will defend McBride?
Great question, because I think McBride is AZ's most dangerous weapon, especially if Marvin Harrison Jr. can't play. McBride is going to get his, but the Packers have to keep his catches from turning into explosive plays. He's a really good player.
I had been thinking some of those catches last Sunday by Chase and co. were pretty amazing. Frustrating for us, but it seemed unusual. Seems like MLF confirmed that. Watching other games on Sunday, I don't think I saw anyone else making that many contested tight catches. So, I guess my question is: was it just good on them, or was it something bad on us? I'd really hate to see that trend continue!
I always think it's some of both. Chase's grab on fourth down was amazing. How Flacco completed that third down pass to Higgins with Barryn Sorrell running free right at him on the rush was nuts. Back in Dallas, the sideline ball to Pickens, the Packers had two defenders right there and Pickens made the grab. Those plays are so close and you credit the other guys, but the Packers can make those plays defensively and need to start to.
For years it seems the Packers have trouble with struggling teams. They tend to let them hang around until the end. Sometimes with disastrous results (Cleveland). How can they better put teams away that clearly have difficulties against everyone else?
Usually teams get put away because they turn the ball over. That's why the Browns, with that defense, have had some lopsided scores. The Packers didn't get a meaningful turnover in Cleveland. Didn't get any last week either. Not getting turnovers makes it harder to put teams away because opponents can usually find something that works during the course of a game to get back into it.
I love me some Spoff live blog. My question is, can you enjoy the game or is it for you like shooting the balony at the bar but typing?
Ha. I don't know what that means. But I always enjoy the games. It's a privilege in this job to be there in person every Sunday. I don't take that for granted. There's a lot I miss while trying to type furiously and throw in a fan comment/question here or there. But it's fun.
What's is the status of Javon Bullard? I feel like this is a game the secondary needs to step up as the Cardinals may be looking to pass more with their RB1 and RB2 out and the Packers run D being so stout.
Bullard left the Cincy game to be evaluated for a concussion but LaFleur said he was cleared and not put in the protocol so he was at practice today.
Mike, thanks for the chat. Do you have any inclination of who is the CB2? Has Carrington Valentine taken over the role or is Nate Hobbs still in recovery?
I think Keisean Nixon and Hobbs are the top two, but when Bullard left the game they needed Hobbs in the slot so that brought CV out to take a boundary corner spot.
Hi Mike, thanks as always for all the ways you engage with us fans. My question is; are traditional labels for positions (TE, FB, WR, etc.) are applicable anymore? Is this what Vic was referring to with "players not plays?" Today's II likened Tucker Kraft and John Kuhn. Is this also some of the magic that comes with MLF?
I don't know if I'd call it magic, but this is "the more you can do" era of football. TEs line up as FBs sometimes. WRs need to block in the running game. Nobody's job description is narrow, at least not for LaFleur's offense. Same goes for defense sometimes too. Position labels still make sense, but they don't tell the whole story.
I was at the Bengals game on Sunday and did the stadium tour the day before. It all felt surreal and definitely the best experience I've had at an NFL game. My wife and friends we were with all loved the experience as well. We got to see where you and Wes sit on game days. You guys have a great view!
Our view in the Lambeau press box is one of the best in the league. There are some stadiums where we get a better one, but those are dwindling with each new construction or renovation.
Any word or news on MarShawn Lloyd? Still on IR I believe, what is his current injury he's battling back from?
It's a groin injury from the Indy preseason game, and he has not begun practicing yet.
We often hear LaFleur say 'get better every day,' and 'win this week,' etc…Does Love talk about his goals for the season?
Not publicly. No players do really, and I don't blame them. Saying those things publicly in the media just puts something out there that's going to stick with you. It's not necessary and only a distraction.
When does the team fly out to acclimate to the temp or is that not a concern?
The team is flying out Saturday afternoon like usual for a Sunday road game.
Do you think the second-half showings say something about the team's fitness level, as Hadley hinted at?
Maybe. I don't know. But they're trying not to ignore any of the possibilities.
Have they talked about changes to the silent count to help the O-line? Some past players have said the through the legs and looking in approach puts the linemen at a disadvantage compared to the "tap and count" thing other teams do.
I don't know on that one either. I don't think the snaps in road games have been a major issue where they'd look to change their MO at this point.
Based on what you know of Arizona's defense, are we likely to have a good game thru the air or will we have more success running the ball?
They're giving up 250 yards per game through the air, and their only pass rusher who's done much is the ageless Campbell. Keep him blocked and this should be a game the Packers can get the passing game humming.
Any word on contract talks with Romeo Doubs?
Haven't heard anything other than that report from a week or two ago that talks apparently were ongoing.
Hey Mike, do you think the Brewers can come back against the Dodgers?
I sure hope so, but losing the first two at home sure wasn't the plan. Taking 2 of 3 in LA in order to come back home and give Freddy another start on the mound will be a really tough task. But it's baseball. Who knows.
I admit I read the latest draft prognostication and only remembered when I got toward the end, I don't need to bother worrying about a first round pick for awhile!
Probably not, no.
Photos: Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs racked up 93 rushing yards, 57 receiving yards and two touchdowns in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 12, 2025.

It is frustrating watching our defense get picked apart with short quick passes. You know every other team we play is going to copy this.
Right, which is why I expect Hafley & Co. to come up with some answers now that they've seen that plan work so well the last two games. All it did in Cleveland was prevent sacks and turnovers, and then the Packers gave that game away. But Dallas and Cincy had better offensive weapons to make that work and it showed.
With the expected high number of Cheeseheads at the game, and assuming a closed roof, do you think AZ will have to resort to the silent count on Offense?
Color me curious on that one. I do think there will be a lot of Packers fans there.
Mike, do you expect Love to eventually stop making the occasional critical error during a game, or is this just part of his play? I know that Favre seemed to get a pass from the coaches for the occasional pick he'd throw.
Hopefully he gets it out of his game, and I believe he will. He's still in the first half of his third season, and last year so much time was spent just getting his body right it wasn't a full year for him by any stretch. As usual in these matters, I'm willing to be patient when so much talent and ability is prevalent.
The Cincy game was my second ever at Lambeau. After any reception from Tee Higgins, there was an audible "TEEEEEE" from the crowd. It didn't look like Bengals fans had flooded Lambeau, but it was a bit concerning that an AFC opponent could generate that type of noise. Is the home-field advantage waning a bit? Otherwise, it was a great crowd.
You could hear that a bit but that wasn't a huge influx of Cincy fans.
Have the Packers had any tipped balls at the line of scrimmage? If the ball is coming out quick, maybe that is our shot at turnovers.
We'll see if that's one of the adjustments they make with the pass rush.
Maybe in the future they can do a live blog where you just get to talk about the game as it unfolds instead of type. Plenty of us would log in for that
I'm quite certain that would violate the NFL's broadcast rules. But yes, that would be a blast for me.
Where is the press box at State Farm Stadium? I'll be sure to wave to you from section 131 behind the Packers bench
We'll be in the end zone that's to the right as you watch on TV.
Hi Mike. Any news on Lukas Van Ness?
LaFleur said he avoided a serious injury but didn't know how long he'd be out. He wasn't at practice today.
Not that I wanted the FG to count, but how great would it have been to have the longest ever field goal be in Lambeau?
That was a whale of a kick. If I remember correctly, the longest kick ever at Lambeau was from 63, by David Akers of SF, and he hit the crossbar too.
What's up with Bo Melton? Haven't seen much of him at CB and he was on offense Sunday.
He's gotten an occasional snap on offense but he's down the depth chart at corner. He's a huge part of special teams, as usual.
I saw your crazy stat of the week. If I read it right, you're saying Jordan Love is a perfect 10.
Perfect, no. I said no such thing, lol. But I did find it interesting that was the first time at home he hit 10 yards per attempt in a game.
Considering the impact that diet has on endurance in other sports, does a dietician/chef travel with the team?
Yes.
Sorry if you've been asked this earlier. Any injury update on Brandon McManus? Havrisik played great in a tough spot - but McManus is still the starter.
McManus did not appear to be practicing today. Havrisik is still on the roster.
How impressed have you been with Josh Jacobs this season?
Very, no different than last year. For him to do what he did Sunday with the stomach flu says so much about him. I just love watching him play, and he's a treat to talk to as well.
Larry seems to show run blocking is working well. Is that opportunistic based on the defensive fronts we are facing or just dominance?
It's coming together. Remember, the Packers have been dealing with injuries up front all season. It's affected practice time, chemistry, all that. If they can get a unit of 5 practicing and playing together regularly, things will keep moving forward.
Instead of the Manningcast, we get the Spoff-o-cast!
Ha. I'd rather keep my credentials than have them revoked.
Is it concerning that our coach is concerned about conditioning 5 games into the season or is he just turning over every stone?
As I said before, I think it's the latter. No assumptions when trying to explore issues.
At the end of last season, I remember hearing that coaches wanted Jordan Love to be more vocal with his leadership. I haven't been to any of the games and was wondering your thoughts.
We don't see it necessarily, but everything we've heard is that Love has gotten considerably more vocal behind the scenes, at practice and in the locker room. He's very much a leader of this team.
Must be tough to kick those really long FGs. When the FG hit the cross bar, I was thinking he only needed a little bit more on the second attempt. Instead it came up about 10 yards short!
Yeah, he clearly mis-hit the second try. Wasn't clean contact.
Mike, Xavier McKinney and Evan Williams are the best Packer safety combo since?
Probably Collins and Burnett, though that only lasted a few games Burnett's rookie year before he got hurt. And then Collins was done two games into the next season.
Do you anticipate a trade before the deadline or will we stand pat?
I don't really worry about it one way or the other. I have no way of predicting these things. I'm sure Gutey is exploring options, but he's not going to make a trade just for the sake of making one. It has to be for the right price, the right player. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't mean he wasn't looking.
Do you get the sense that Tom's injury will be something he has to play through all season?
Hopefully not but that's something they'll be monitoring for sure.
Have two tight end sets been effective?
Other than the Cleveland game, this offense has had no trouble moving the football. They haven't scored as many points as they should've in some instances, but they move the ball pretty consistently.
Will you please pass on a thanks to Weston for the article on Nazir Stackhouse? Great piece.
That was a great piece. He put a lot of work into that. I'm glad people are enjoying it.
Mike, what's your impression of our young kick returners?
Works in progress. Plenty of potential. It was good to see Savion Williams consistently get the ball to the 35 or beyond last week. Hopefully that's the start of something.
After this weekend, your next trip out to Arizona should be for some Brewers spring training
That is definitely on my bucket list.
We seem inconsistent where our offense plays well one game then our defense plays good another. You think we will peak at the right time?
We shall see. Lotta football left.
Why has our run game worked better the last couple games?
Because the O-line is starting to settle in and the passing game has opened things up. Defenses are starting to pay for paying so much attention to Jacobs.
Mike given that we only have two turnovers created by the defense so far this year and opposing quarterbacks are employing the quick passing game don't you think it's about time that we employees some press coverage by D backs?
They've tried that, and vs. man the opponents have run either the quick outs or the go routes that don't allow the safety to help, and the ball is still coming out with the QB trusting his guy to make a play. Those passes against man are being thrown before or without any real opening.
Your thoughts on Pat Murphy? Seems like quite the guy.
Straight shooter. Enjoyable to listen to talk ball.
Are coaches in the league learning from the current resurgence of "failed" quarterbacks?
I think it just goes to show how much coaching and environment and situation matter in this league.
Do you know why Keisean Nixon does not return any more? He was dynamite.
He's playing literally every snap on defense. When he was earning All-Pro nods as a returner, he wasn't playing as many defensive snaps. They don't want to wear the guy out and have it impact his defensive play, which is his primary duty now.
Indy might be the only team that feels good about where they are right now. Nobody is a finished product in October. Image how KC/BAL/BUF/PHI feel right now, and how the fanbase is reacting.
Buffalo and Philly are both on two-game losing streaks, to teams people wouldn't think they'd lose to. That's this league. Baltimore's defense has fallen apart and their QB is hurt. The Chiefs look like they're on their way back after a slow start. Nobody is the same in November and December compared to the start of the season. That's reality.
Is there any chance that Aaron Jones gets into the Packers Hall of Fame? Definitely one of my favorite himans
He's the No. 3 all-time leading rusher in franchise history. I'm sure the Packers HOF has a place for him.
I'm salivating at the thought of Watson and Golden on the field at the same time. We should be tough to defend with all that speed.
All in due time.
Gutey is underrated.
And the best part is he doesn't care.
Would the ownership situation in Tennessee dissuade any NFL ready coach from not interviewing for the job? Or is the fact that there are only 32 jobs make the ownership situation moot?
If you want to be a head coach in this league, it can be tough to pick and choose. The next coach in TEN gets to work with the No. 1 overall draft pick. That makes it pretty attractive I would think.
Had fun listening to miked-up 8 and 74 from Sunday. Who decides those? Team? NFL? Somebody else?
I'm not entire sure about the process. I think NFL Films will ask for certain players, and it's up to the team and those players to approve the request.
All right, with that I think I'll call it a chat. Thanks again for all the participation. Programming note: Next week's chat may have to be moved up an hour, to noon CT, so keep an eye out. Hopefully that's just a one-time switch though because I like routine and I know you do too. Take care and talk again soon. Best, Mike
