GREEN BAY—With nearly 30 new concession areas in the expanded south end zone, Lambeau Field needs roughly 400 additional gameday workers for the 2013 season.
The Packers and Delaware North Companies Sportservice put out the call on Thursday to non-profit and charitable groups, as well as individuals interested in staffing the new concession areas.
The expanded south end zone is adding roughly 7,000 seats to Lambeau, pushing the stadium's capacity close to 80,000. Non-profit groups that staff a concession stand earn a commission on gross sales.
"We just need a lot more help. We need more volunteers," said Tim Connolly, Packers vice president of sales and marketing. "We want to have people spending time in their seats. They don't want to leave the game and they don't want to stand in line.
"We've added to the capacity up here with a great ratio of concession stands to fans. We want to make sure they're staffed."
During the 2012 season, 78 non-profit groups collectively earned more than $800,000.
"We're expecting to exceed that if not double it this year," said Charlie Millerwise, Sportservice general manager.
Millerwise added that Sportservice has streamlined the training process for groups and changed some other procedures after receiving feedback following the 2012 season, which was Sportservice's first as the stadium's food and beverage provider.
The sales commission for non-profit groups is 10 percent for a fixed concession stand and 5 percent for a portable beer-sales stand. Independent workers can earn between $8 and $15 per hour.
Fixed stands need 10 to 20 people to work eight-hour shifts, while portable stands require three people for five-hour shifts. Millerwise said Sportservice is willing to work with groups of all sizes, from less than 10 people to as many as 100 or more. Sportservice also will travel to out-of-town groups to conduct training sessions.
Large groups can earn around $20,000 for an entire season, and some have earned more. Any groups interested in volunteering should contact Delaware North's Teri Heath at 920-965-3775.
"We want to make sure fans have a great experience here, and a big part of that is making sure we have the concession stands manned," Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said. "In addition to helping our fans, it's a great way for us to give back to charities across the state."
