The Green Bay Packers' game against the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday, presented by Ticketmaster, is dedicated to showing appreciation to the U.S. Military through a variety of activities in recognition of Veteran's Day.
In conjunction with an NFL-wide Salute to Service celebration of the holiday, the Packers and Shopko, the official hometown store of the Green Bay Packers, are presenting an in-stadium card stunt in appreciation of veterans and military members.
Fans seated in the stadium bowl are asked to help turn Lambeau Field into a camouflage ring with an accompanying message of "Packers salute military" during the national anthem. Game attendees will find a card taped to their seat with directions indicating when to hold it up and which side to have facing up. Fans will be prompted by a group at the bottom of their sections holding up cue cards reading, "Get Ready for Stunt," then "Go Stunt."
The Brown County Volunteer Center is helping place the cards and is seeking volunteers to help set up the flip cards Friday. Interested volunteers are asked to call 920/429-9445 or sign up at www.volunteergb.org.
As a part of the NFL's Salute to Service campaign, each player's helmet will feature a decal representing a branch of the military. Players will also be using newly designed gloves, camouflage-branded Gatorade towels, New Era caps, winter knit hats, Nike KO hoodies and game balls with the NFL shield camo-ribbon decal. In addition, the stadium will feature camouflaged goal post wraps, in-stadium banners and pylon decals with the words "NFL Salute to Service" written on them. Game-used items will be auctioned off at NFL Auction (www.NFL.com/auction), with proceeds benefitting the league's core military non-profit partners.
Prior to kickoff in the fan walkway, Sargento will host a food drive to support the 11th season of Touchdowns for Charity, a program that helps alleviate hunger in Wisconsin. Tailgaters are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or monetary contributions to benefit Paul's Pantry in Green Bay and the Wisconsin Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee. Packers Pro Football Hall of Famer Dave Robinson will also be in attendance to sign autographs and take photos with fans who donate to the drive.
In the Atrium, fans will have the chance to send a holiday card to a service member with the help of the American Red Cross as part of the annual Holiday Mail for Heroes program. The card signing station will be open from 8 a.m. until halftime. Service members, veterans and their families across the country and around the world will receive the cards. Red Cross volunteers across the United States and on military installations overseas sort and deliver the cards throughout the holiday season. The Red Cross has distributed more than 6.5 million cards for members of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and their families since the program began in 2006.
The national anthem will be performed by Tom and Jenn Korbee, and five on-field flags representing all branches of the military will be unfurled as the card stunt takes place. In addition, the Packers and WPS will be recognizing Wisconsin National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Jamie Lenzendorf through Operation Fan Mailon-field prior to the national anthem.
Also during pregame, 35 winners of the Fit Kids competition, a free, year-long fourth grade curriculum for schools in Wisconsin designed to promote healthy living by focusing on the physical, nutritional and social aspects of good health, will be recognized on the field. The competition, sponsored by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, awards each winner, which won by writing an essay on how they stay healthy, two tickets to a Packers game.
Halftime entertainment will include the All Veterans Parachute Team, which will parachute into the bowl. Each member of the All Veterans Parachute Team is an active or former military service member. For more information, visit www.allveteranparachuteteam.com.
Packers alumni Mark Chmuraand Chester Marcolwill be recognized prior to team introductions and will also be in the Packers Pro Shop on Saturday, Nov. 9, signing autographs from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Chmura will be mingling with fans in the Tundra Tailgate Zone on gameday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. while Marcol is in the Legends Club for suite and club seat ticket holders.
