Packers make an impact in Pro Bowl

Jordy Nelson, John Kuhn make big plays for Team Carter, but Randall Cobb, Clay Matthews on victorious Team Irvin

Jordy Nelson had a touchdown catch and John Kuhn broke off a long run, but those Packers' contributions weren't enough for Team Carter in Sunday's Pro Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Team Irvin, which featured Packers Randall Cobb and Clay Matthews, prevailed 32-28 in the NFL's annual all-star game.

Nelson caught a 21-yard TD pass from New Orleans QB Drew Brees late in the second quarter to give Team Carter a 20-19 halftime lead. The play capped a seven-play, 75-yard drive on which Nelson also had a 16-yard catch and Kuhn had a 2-yard run to convert a fourth-and-1.

Playing in his first Pro Bowl, Nelson had three receptions for 41 yards in all. He also was the target on a flea-flicker play but the pass was incomplete.

Kuhn also got loose on a 29-yard run in the third quarter on third-and-1, but three plays later, Brees was intercepted. Kuhn, a starter at fullback, finished with the two carries for 31 yards.

Josh Sitton was the starter at left guard for Team Carter, while defensively, cornerback Sam Shields was credited with three solo tackles for Team Carter.

For the victorious Team Irvin, Cobb had one catch for nine yards, and it occurred on the game's opening drive. The pass came from Dallas QB Tony Romo on second-and-2 and helped lead to a field goal. Cobb had one other pass thrown his way in the game, but it was incomplete.

Matthews was credited with two tackles on defense, plus one special-teams tackle when he foiled an attempted lateral from Team Carter's Devin Hester to Patrick Peterson on a punt return. Matthews pushed Peterson out of bounds, but Team Carter was penalized on the play anyway because the lateral was an illegal forward pass. Matthews also nearly blocked a punt in the second half.
