The Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) are teaming up to recognize exemplary high school football officials across Wisconsin during the 2025 season.
As part of a National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and NFL initiative to honor high school football officials, the Packers and WIAA will recognize a "Crew of the Month" in September, October and November. Each month, WIAA personnel will review nominations for five positions: referee, umpire, head linesperson, line judge and back judge. Individuals will be named as part of the Crew of the Month based on demonstration of objectivity, fairness in rules implementation and commitment as officials.
At the conclusion of the season, five outstanding officials previously named to a Crew of the Month will be selected as members of a Wisconsin "Crew of the Year." All participating NFL clubs' Crew of the Year honorees will then be sent to the NFHS and NFL to determine a national Crew of the Year.
"We're proud to recognize the hard work and commitment of Wisconsin high school football officials through this partnership with the WIAA, NFL and NFHS," said Packers football outreach manager Ryan Fencl. "Though often a thankless job, officials are essential to the game. Their dedication ensures student-athletes across the state have a fair, safe and structured opportunity to play football."
Each month's honorees will be highlighted on Packers and NFL Play Football digital and social media platforms.
"We are excited for this partnership with the Packers," said WIAA Assistant Director Chad Schultz. "Officials play a vital role in education-based athletics. Without their dedication, fairness and integrity, the lessons of teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship would never reach the field. Through this recognition program, we are excited to showcase officials that have made great contributions to the sport of football and also their local communities across the state."
