Work with Brett Hundley started early

Rookie LB Vince Biegel to be full participant in practice

GREEN BAY -- Tuesday is normally the players' day off, but not so for the Packers' new starting quarterback, Brett Hundley.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy said the coaching staff met with Hundley Tuesday night after finishing the game-planning meetings "just to get a jump start," and now Hundley will hit the practice field on Wednesday to continue preparing for Sunday's game against the Saints.

"This is his third year, and he has a complete understanding of the offense," McCarthy said prior to Wednesday's practice. "He's comfortable, but it's not just about Brett. A lot of our decisions will be based on who we're lining up with on the offensive line."

That remains a big uncertainty, as McCarthy said the three starters up front who exited the Minnesota game with injuries -- guard Lane Taylor (knee/ankle) and tackles David Bakhtiari (hamstring) and Bryan Bulaga (concussion) -- would begin this week in the rehab group at practice with the hope they could progress to different parts of practice.

The same goes for rookie cornerback Kevin King, who missed the Vikings game with a concussion.

The defense will have one new member on Wednesday in rookie outside linebacker Vince Biegel, who has been on the physically unable to perform list with a foot injury. Biegel is slated to practice for the first time on Wednesday, and McCarthy expects him to be a full participant.

"He needs to get beat up, he needs to get scarred up a little bit, go through the padded practice (on Thursday) and go through the natural cycle of getting back to it," McCarthy said of Biegel, a fourth-round draft pick out of Wisconsin. "He's excited to get back out there."

McCarthy added that the surgery on quarterback Aaron Rodgers' broken collarbone had not been set yet, to his knowledge.

Packers.com will have more following practice and locker room interviews.
