Jones was selected by the Packers with the second of two fifth-round picks (No. 182 overall), a compensatory pick awarded to the team in the 2017 NFL Draft.

He became the first running back to be drafted out of Texas-El Paso since Marcus Thomas in 2008 (fifth round, San Diego) and the first UTEP running back to be selected by the Packers since Ed Smith in 1948 (third round).
