How big was this win for Green Bay?
Big. It was hot, humid and the Packers had to watch another of their top players get carted off with a season-ending injury. Yet, they persevered and clawed their way back to .500. There's something to be said for that.
Dustin from Kansas City, MO
Another game, another major injury to a very important player. Maybe it's recency bias talking here, but going back to last year, I just can't remember a stretch like this where we've had so many important players going down for extended periods of time. Did someone in the locker room steal Jobu's rum or something? This is just nuts.
The Packers have dealt with injuries before, but I don't recall a 12-month stretch like this where they affected so many top stars in such significant ways. Edgerrin Cooper was playing at an All-Pro level and easily one of the top five most important players on this football team. But this is why Matt LaFleur tabbed Jonathan Gannon as his defensive coordinator. Every bout of adversity is an opportunity for creativity and Gannon did that with how he utilized Evan Williams down the stretch Sunday.

"Holy schnikes!" Classic. Go Brew Crew! I hope the Brewers' success in Wisconsin can motivate the Packers' personnel to get to and achieve success in the postseason! They have the QB to do it, but their RB is missing until further notice. Their win in Tampa was Pyrrhic, with Coop going down, but they've got Micah Parsons returning and Gannon's D taking hold. Do you think there is still a chance MLF can put it all together, get on a winning streak, make the playoffs and win NFL Coach of the Year?
The real coach of the year award goes to whoever's team wins it all. The challenge with losing Cooper is that he was a big part of the plan to stem the tide until Micah Parsons' return. Now that option is no longer available. Collin Oliver is eligible to practice this week. If Oliver's calf is healed, his hybrid skillset could help the pass rush. Beyond that, we're all anxiously awaiting Parsons' return to the lineup.
Richard from Santa Ana, CA
I would assume today is an off day for the team. So, would that make tomorrow the earliest the team could announce Micah Parsons to come off the PUP and start practicing? Perhaps that would be the emotional and psychological lift this team needs to start playing cleaner football.
LaFleur confirmed Parsons will not practice this week, though he is champing – yes, I said champing – at the bit to get back on the field. Whenever Parsons does practice, we probably won't hear about it until the day he steps back on the field to maximize that 21-day return window.

Wes, since the Vic days, we've used the expression "jars on the shelf" to refer mostly to young offensive linemen who need time to develop. Today, I'm curious to finally get a prolonged look at linebacker Ty'Ron Hopper after the loss of Edgerrin Cooper. Can you give us an idea of what has been fermenting in Hopper's mason jar?
Cooper's loss hurts, but the Packers have plenty of jars left at linebacker. Isaiah McDuffie is the next man up. He's the longest-tenured player on defense and has full command of things. The Packers extended him in July for this exact reason. That's not to say Hopper won't get opportunities. It's just his role has focused mainly on backing up Zaire Franklin at "Mike" linebacker.

Jordan Love does not need to be a superhero. Interception aside, he played a helluva game and did exactly what he should have in the situations that were present. Bonus points for the assist on the tush push. With three fourth-down conversions on a single drive, I thought that would take the wind out of the defense. I'm glad we aren't discussing potential impacts of not taking the three points in either of those conversion situations.
Love was everything the Packers needed him to be Sunday. He stood tall in the pocket, trusted his protection and showed an insane touch on the 2-yard touchdown to Matthew Golden and the deep ball to Bo Melton.
Rich from Holmen, WI
I assume you will not post my question but will send it anyway. Saw Jordan Love run one rollout play that went for good positive yardage. Never called another rollout or bootleg rest of game or even any end-around WR plays. Why do you think Matt LaFleur does not want that as part of his game plan?
Designed runs and bootlegs have never been a core part of Love's game, at any level. He has the athleticism to extend but almost always is looking to get the ball in his receiver's hands. I don't disagree it might behoove Love to run more. He ran well as a first-year starter in 2023. But I don't think it's on LaFleur to design runs for Love. It's more on Love to feel out the play/pocket and decide when's the right time to utilize that option.

Do the Packers practice plays for when it's first-and-20? They had first-and-20 on four consecutive drives if I remember correctly and were able to get a few first downs. By the way, it was sweltering in that stadium and don't know how those players didn't pass out from heat exposure.
This is where I thought Love shined Sunday. "Get back on track" plays are part of every offense. Despite being put in some disadvantageous situations, Love produced several chunk plays in first-and-20 spots to get back into second-and-manageable. You can't always count on that, though. The Packers got away with a few. It's often said you win or you learn. Hopefully, the Packers did both Sunday.
James from Appleton, WI
The Packers at least began to get the TEs more involved in catching passes. But, not to add more complication at a difficult time, when they go with three WRs, wouldn't it help to keep the defense off-balance to have Matthew Golden in the slot occasionally and use that opportunity to switch Christian Watson from side to side?
The Packers have to be open to all of it. When Randall Cobb broke his leg in 2013, one of the adjustments Mike McCarthy made was moving Nelson around more – including in the slot. Both Watson and Golden can do anything on the field, and they've pretty much done it all through the first month of the year.

Mike/Wes, after all your years covering Packers, what is the one thing about how an NFL team is built or operated that you think fans generally misunderstand the most? I'm curious what covering the team every day has taught you that we don't see from the outside.
How much time the coaches, players and support staff invest into solving problems that the average fan complains about. NFL teams aren't oblivious to areas in which they must improve. The challenge is there are no easy answers in the NFL. By the time you solve them, the game changes the questions.

Trey Smack is the team MVP at the moment, responsible for both our wins. It is still early for the rookie, but I'm highly optimistic we finally found our long-term solution at kicker (crossing fingers). He missed his first NFL extra-point attempt (jitters?), and his only FG miss was the block against the Falcons. Here's to seeing how well the Florida transplant adapts to the upcoming winter weather conditions. On another positive note, how about that wicked Super Mario leap by ML32!?
It's just great to see Smack delivering with authority. He strikes the ball so naturally, which means he doesn't have to overswing. You can see the confidence building, too.
Bruce from Appleton, WI
The offense looked better this week but are they going to look for a running back to help in the game?
We'll see how the Packers choose to handle the backfield in the wake of Chris Brooks' ankle injury. If another running back is needed, I'd prefer Pierre Strong Jr. over any other options. He's a former fourth-round pick who's been on Green Bay's practice squad for more than a year now. If a gameday spot is available, it's time to see what he's got.

How does the O-line bounce back?
From its best performance of the season?
Greg from Gretna, NE
As a Wisconsin native and a Madison alum, it was a great week to be a Badger. UW women win two big matches. Brewers win two nail-biters; Packers, too. As a 70-plus-year Packer Backer, it was heartening to see the O-line getting better – some hiccups but don't you think some was due to getting used to cadence in a hostile environment? – even if it's vets. Love watching our DB and safety play. Clean up the self-inflicted and it promises to be a fun year. But gonna need a new shirt after Coop fell.
The O-line took a step against Tampa Bay. It opened holes for the run game and gave Love time to make plays. I can't think of many offensive linemen who joined a brand new team on Monday, and six days later, played all 60 snaps like Laken Tomlinson did. Sean Rhyan deserves credit, too, for directing traffic between two new guards.

Wes: Just a comment on the Tucker Kraft TD that was ruled incomplete before the challenge. The official making the call looked at Kraft on the ground for about three seconds before ruling the pass incomplete. My first thought was he didn't have control when he hit the ground. But the issue was if both feet were in bounds. Why the delay? Waiting for communication from above? Awaiting for your expertise analysis. GPG!
It was a touchdown because Kraft had possession of the ball as it crossed the goal line, but the referee had no idea what he was looking at and just went into standby mode. As I posited on Twitter, I wish the ref would've just signaled touchdown to trigger the automatic replay. Instead, he just stood there like a slab of meat with mittens (someone please get that reference).
The Green Bay Packers arrived for their Week 4 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026.

Speaking of refs, did you see the one from the Giants/Cardinals game screaming some pretty vulgar stuff to Trey McBride? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before. Complete lack of composure and professionalism.
I appreciated the NFL and NFLPA seeking accountability. The NFL suspended Jeff Seeman for two games after the incident with McBride and also benched referee Adrian Hill for one game due to his interaction with former Packers linebacker Eric Wilson in Minnesota. It's a regrettable situation. Officiating is a high-pressure gig, but a level of decorum is needed given the nature of their position.
Mark from Ada, OK
After winning 15-10 on Sunday the Vikings are 4-0 while not recording a touchdown in two of those victories. I've seen reporting stating this is the first team to accomplish this feat since 1934. Wild.
Every fantasy football league has that team, right? All that matters is whether you win or lose and the Vikings keep finding a way. Kudos to them.
Andrew from Richmond, VA
I've watched the Vikings games the last two weeks and keep having the same question. Would the Packers have been better off if Kyler Murray didn't get hurt in Week 1? That guy stinks...
The Packers lost the game so it would be silly to say otherwise, no?
Anthony from Middleton, WI
To answer Douglas from Harbor Springs regarding the non-safety, they explained on the broadcast it was because first contact occurred outside the end zone, which was news to me.
I did not know that until it was explained to me in the press box. I suppose it's much like runners being awarded forward progress as long as they have control of the ball.
Al from Hartford, WI
Spoff, so glad you got to see some of Sunday's ninth inning. I figured you'd have other obligations. What a finish. And Derek Jeter expressed my thought on the postgame show…don't forget the Gary Sanchez at-bat that got Jackson to the plate. Again, just glad you got to see it.
I have never seen Spoff like that. It was quite the moment. Congrats to all the Brew Crew fans out there.
Hal from Lanesboro, MN
Not a question but a comment. As a part-time practitioner of audio-describing live theater, I truly appreciate the level of skill Mike brings to the live in-game chat, of which I was able to partake for the first time, of necessity. Big KUDOS, Mike.
I don't know how Mike does it. My position requires plenty of multitasking during games, too, but I'm not responsible for engaging fans like he does. If I stick around long enough, I'll need to study Spoff's process before he sails into the literary sunset.
Bette from Orange City, IA
Can you bring back the traditional Packers/Lions Thanksgiving game again?
Heavens to Bette, Green Bay just made that Thanksgiving trip in back-to-back years.
Tom from Lisbon, WI
You know the best thing about watching baseball? When something AWESOME happens, I don't have to wait to look around for a flag before I get excited.
That thought crossed my mind as we were waiting for the penultimate pitch to Chourio during that at-bat.
John from Jupiter, FL
Morning Wes. Four games in and we keep doing the same negative things. Yes, this was a win but if play continues in this way I see at most two more possible wins on the schedule. Tell me it can change?!
It can change.

My beloved Packers need to watch Mary Poppins.
I'm sure the readers who hate poetry will love singing. Have a good Tuesday.
