Dennis from Boise, ID
Wes, the story on Barryn Sorrell – outstanding. Nothing else to say. Thank you. Can't wait to see him in a Packer uniform.
Thank you, Dennis, and thanks to everyone who reached out with kind words about the story. I wish I could reply to all of them. A big thanks to Lauren Anderson for her work on the graphic, Nicole Timm and Carson Denley on the layout and Mike for his editing of the story and tweaking the Inbox schedule to accommodate my writing. It was a fun project.
Mark from Burnt Hill, NB, Canada
Sorry, not a question. Thank you, Wes, for the wonderful read on Barryn Sorrell. What a great story and I hope you're as proud as you can be, because that was written exquisitely.
The credit goes to Barryn, his mom and Professor Brandl, who were all very giving with their time. It's great anytime you can peel back the layers and learn more about what makes these players tick. There's so much to love about Sorrell and his outlook on life. I'm blown away by his maturity, discipline and the overall consistency for a 22-year-old man. That's a credit to Sorrell and his upbringing. Like Brian Gutekunst said after the draft – Sorrell's as genuine and authentic as prospects get. He's far from content, either. If you read the piece, you can easily tell this young man is ready to get to work.
Kim from Hudson, WI
I loved Wes's piece on Barryn Sorrell. I was watching the draft that day and was moved to goosebumps and almost tears as he made his way to the stage. Thanks for sharing more about this young man who seems to have a great outlook on life. I can't wait to see him play!
The NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell deserve a shout out, too. Givens was effusive in her praise of the league for how it treated Sorrell and his entire family during draft week. It was also a tremendous gesture on Goodell's part to go back into the green room on Friday night and let Sorrell know he'd gladly come back on Saturday to announce his selection.
Marteen from Reno, NV
What an outstanding article on Barryn, Wes! This man is a gem and Green Bay knew it. With his drive, passion, and character, he will be a force to be reckoned with, and a leader within the team in no time. I have always said, things happen for a reason and for him the stars aligned, and he was meant to be a Green Bay Packer. I think I'll be ordering No. 99 from the Pro Shop. Again Wes, your article was a showcase of your talent and bringing his story to life. Thank you!
Ha, you won't be the only one. This anecdote didn't make it in the story, but Sorrell told Brandl during their email conversation he'd send him a Packers jersey once things settle down.
Brian from San Francisco, CA
Is Barryn Sorrell going to become the next Aaron Jones for the team? He seems like a young man very easy to root for. Hope he can produce and have the career that AJ did for the Packers.
We can only hope, though I may go my entire time covering the NFL without coming across someone like Jones ever again. He's a superstar in name only and as down-to-earth as human beings get in any walk of life, let alone pro sports.
Michael from Bristol, WI
Wes, what a fantastic article you penned on Barryn Sorrell. How can you not root for this kid?! If he's half as good of a player as he is a human being, we're in for a real treat. It's clear from your story that you really like this young man. That makes me wonder – how difficult is it for you to separate your admiration for a player from the tough realities of the NFL as a business? Also, how often do you stay in touch with former Packers players after they've moved on?
It's a tough business. Jayrone Elliott would be entering his 12th season with the Packers if I was responsible for the 53-man roster. I keep up with several former Packers players (including Jayrone) but also like meeting new players, too. We've only had a few interactions with the rookie class, but it seems like a great group so far.

I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the article on Barryn Sorrell. It's excellent perspective on how important hard work is relative to being successful in life. I can't wait to see how Barryn and our other young pass rushers like Lukas Van Ness will step up this season. Opportunity knocks and let's just see who answers?
That's what it's gonna come down to. The Packers bring back everyone at edge rusher and have now added Sorrell and Collin Oliver into the mix. We saw what Brenton Cox Jr. did last year after the Preston Smith trade and how it translated to him getting more opportunities down the stretch.
Mike from Ottawa, Canada
We're adding to last year's fifth-ranked offense Daniel Jeremiah's best running back from the 2024 draft, Pete Prisco's second-best receiver from the 2025 draft plus an intriguing WR/gadget player, a center who has All-Pro potential, a proven road-grading guard, and a wizard play-caller. With a healthy tandem of athletic tight ends and a Pro Bowl bell-cow running back, this offense should be a juggernaut if Jordan Love takes a step forward. Apart from injuries, what could derail them?
It all helps the cause and makes Love's life easier under center. Building off what Ben Sirmans said, it's scary to think about Josh Jacobs looking even better this spring than he did a year ago at this time. I mean, that is high praise given everything Jacobs accomplished in 2024.
Steve from Cedar Falls, IA
It seems Quay Walker is being almost written off. Isn't it possible he will take a leap forward? He isn't that old in the realm of things, either. On another note, a week ago someone was talking about favorite professors. It is hard to beat my International Economics professor on finals day calling us up to the front one by one and telling us our current grade and asking if we want to risk it on the exam. No brainer – I had an A locked up.
That's an awesome recollection. I have no doubt Walker could take a huge leap forward in Year 4 and the Packers believe the same. It's a contract year for Walker and I'm expecting to see the best version of Quay. Walker has gained the experience to match his extraordinary genetic makeup. If Walker stays healthy, I think he's in for a big year.
Bob from Green Bay, WI
A lot of questions submitted regarding the impact of Savion Williams. He is a great example of the Pack's philosophy of draft and develop. They don't need him to be a huge impact player this coming season or even the year after. He has the tangibles to develop into an impact player in the next four years. It's definitely exciting but let's see what he can develop into. In the meantime, let's sprinkle him into the offense. Great scouting!
Williams has a plethora of skills. As I've said a few times on "Unscripted," I can't wait to see which areas of his game the Packers look to incorporate in Year 1 and watch his role grow from there within the offense. On paper, there's little this guy can't do.
Matt from Racine, WI
Do you think MarShawn Lloyd is going to start camp as the No. 2 running back? Or do you think he'll have to beat out Emanuel Wilson for that spot?
And don't forget about Chris Brooks. Like many of these positions, I see that as a wide-open competition. But yes, it will be great to get Lloyd involved again.
Ted from Findlay, OH
So, with Matthew Golden signed, who is left?
Only Anthony Belton. On Tuesday’s “Packers Unscripted," Mike gave a very detailed, yet concise, answer for why we're seeing second-round picks signing later. It mostly comes down to guaranteed money.
Patrick from Forest Lake, MN
Wes, if you had to pick one home game to attend this season, which one would you pick and why?
I would love to attend that Ravens game, especially when you consider the implications could be for both clubs. That's part of the reason I had it as the game circled in those series of social videos Larry, Spoff and I recorded.
Michael from Alameda, CA
Hey Wes, I have a dead zone question for you. When looking at certain players on the Packers' roster, I notice a quirky anomaly. As an example, Kalen King is listed as having one year of experience, since he was drafted in 2024. Others though, such as Javon Bullard and Edgerrin Cooper, also drafted in 2024 are listed as having two years of NFL experience. Could you explain the difference to me?
That number reflects which NFL season the player is currently in. The "one" indicates the player is no longer a rookie but hasn't gained an accrued NFL season because he didn't play in the required number of games. In King's case, he spent his rookie year on the practice squad.
Joe from Liberty Township, OH
Bill from Menominee mentioning seeing Kitan Oladapo at a charity event reminded me of my meeting Tim Masthay at a charity event in Cincinnati when he still played for the Packers. When he saw I had shown up with a Packers mini helmet for him to sign he acknowledged I was a "real" Packers fan. Not only did he pose for a photo with me, but he took off his Super Bowl ring and handed it to me so I could check it out. He also took extra time to talk Packers with me.
Tim is a real one, man. He was one of the first to welcome me to the team when the Packers hired me in 2016.
Allan from Austin, TX
Can you think of a reason why a player chooses to run it out of the end zone after an interception? I was re-watching the Lions/Commanders game. Had the DB coughed it up, it would have given life to Detroit.
It's tough to tell playmakers not to make plays, especially in the heat of battle.
Jack from Chicago, IL
You only need one center while requiring two guards and two tackles. There is less demand relative to supply for center which may reduce the cost.
I'm sorry, Jack, but are you using the minimum position requirements in "Madden" as the metric here?
Josh from Seattle, WA
For the players do you think they can negotiate a 1% raise by adding one game? Honestly to me it just makes more sense to play 18 and have two byes than play 17 with one bye. I would also anticipate that the two bye weeks would work out very well for the highly anticipated international increase. The players should just fight for a bigger part of the growing pie, because "no one cares" about their schedule complaints. How would your schedule change with an 18-2 schedule vs. the current format?
And that would be fine if the NFL conceded starting the season before Labor Day or ending earlier than President's Day weekend. At present, it seems neither is the desired option.
Tom from Woodbury, MN
Should I assume all NFL team owners are in favor of an 18th game? Well, maybe not all. As a part owner of one of the teams, I am not in favor and never will be. I hope the players win this upcoming battle.
That's my owner!
Joe from Fargo, ND
After reading Ben from McFarland's statement about the Lions having won enough games at Lambeau it reminded me of something I've seen happen way too often in my 65 years of life. When a team has had a long winning streak against another team, when that streak gets stopped, it tends to go the other direction. After losing that game to the Bears last year, I just said, "Uh-oh." I hope I'm wrong, but I worry.
Only one thing left to do, Joe. Start a new streak.
Al from Green Bay, WI
Welcome back, Wes! Care to share how your run went on Sunday?
It was a great day. I managed a PR in pristine conditions, finishing 27 seconds ahead of the two-hour mark. That said, I consider myself retired from half-marathons. I am looking forward to the Bellin Run in a few weeks, though.
Jennifer from Middleton, WI
Manpower. Oof. I don't like that answer for you guys. As public owners, we get to see the balance sheet. The salary to add to this team is doable. Who can we speak to? Somebody start a petition. While we're at it, let's add an assistant to get you root beer, get Mike his apple juice, and pump gas for you both in the winter. Ooh! And bring a lunch for Spoff to steal and one for you with no condiments on the sandwich. Congrats Wes, buddy, you've made it.
I'm just an ant climbing up a cold, cold mountain, Jennifer.
