For the second day in a row, wet field conditions forced the Packers to stay indoors at the Don Hutson Center for the continuation of training camp workouts, Friday.

Only two days of practice remain before the Packers kick off the preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday night. And according to GM/Head Coach Mike Sherman, Monday can't come soon enough as the grind of training camp is taking its toll on both rookies and veterans.

"I think today was one of those days people kind of feel sorry for themselves a little bit," Sherman said. "Obviously we're getting to the point where we need to go play an opponent other than ourselves."

Originally slated to practice in shells, Sherman deviated from the schedule by having the team workout in pads Friday as opposed to Saturday.

"I just flipped it because we're getting closer to the game," Sherman said. "This will be our last day with pads before the game and I thought I would give them tomorrow without pads."

Despite having four players in practice today that were previously on the injured list -- Aaron Kampman, Nick Luchey, Terdell Sands and Jerry Wisne -- that list isn't getting any shorter.

Tight end Joey Knapp and offensive tackle Reggie Coleman each went down with injuries in 9-on-7 drills. Knapp injured his left hamstring and Coleman injured his hip. Defensive end Earl Cochran was placed on the injured reserve list with a dislocated shoulder.

One area the Packers will be testing the depth chart is receiver. Sherman already has declared that Donald Driver won't play Monday because of a sore hamstring, and isn't getting his hopes up about Robert Ferguson.

"I wouldn't count Fergy out of anything," Sherman said. "Simply because he is so anxious to get back out on the field. But I would say that it's a long shot to see him out there."

In 9-on-7 drills, running back Najeh Davenport was able to get around Gilbert Brown after bouncing off the 6-foot-2, 340-pound defensive tackle at the line of scrimmage.

Quarterback Akili Smith marched the offense down the field in two-minute drills, after attempts by both Brett Favre and Craig Nall were unsuccessful.

Smith found wide receiver Karsten Bailey in the middle of the field for a 15-yard gain, and later picked up a first down on a quarterback keeper up the middle for a 2-yard pickup.

After spiking the ball to stop the clock, Smith then connected with DeAndrew Rubin, who made a diving catch in the middle of the field. Realizing the defense had yet to touch him down, Rubin quickly jumped to his feet and ran the remaining 25-yards for the score.

Moving inside the red zone, quarterback Doug Pederson found tight end Bubba Franks in the corner of the end zone, while Davenport managed to punch it in from 2-yards away during goal line drills.

In 7-on-7 drills, Antonio Chatman outran the defense, hauling in a 25-yard toss from Favre in the left corner of the end zone.

The Packers returned outdoors for the afternoon practice in shells, logging more time on special teams during onside kick drills.

In team drills, wide receiver Javon Walker made a diving catch along the left sideline while both Erwin Swiney and Bobby Jackson hauled in interceptions.

In injury news, linebacker Torrance Marshall sat out the afternoon practice after tweaking his knee in the morning session. Bryant Westbrook also watched from the sidelines, experiencing soreness in his right Achilles. Westbrook suffered a rupture of the left Achilles in 2000. Tony Fisher did not participate in the afternoon, nursing a sore hamstring.

Brown, Favre and Joe Johnson each had the afternoon off and Driver was excused from practice to spend time with his wife Betina, who gave birth to their first child, Cristian Donald Driver, Wednesday afternoon.

Weather permitting, the Packers return to Clarke Hinkle Field for a pair of practices Saturday: 8:45-11:15 a.m. (shells) and 2:45-4:10 p.m. (shells).

Where: Don Hutson Center

Weather: 77 degrees

Did Not Participate: Tommy Collins (quad), Donald Driver (hamstring), Robert Ferguson (tailbone), Jorg Heckenbach (kidneys), James Lee (hip), David Martin (hamstring), Lamar Smith (knee), Adam Tate (knee), Rod Walker (shoulder), Steve Warren (back), Reggie White (knee).
