Sean Mannion begins his second season with the Packers and his first as quarterbacks coach after being promoted on Jan. 31, 2025. He originally joined Green Bay as an offensive assistant on Feb. 5, 2024. Mannion played quarterback in the NFL for nine seasons with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams (2015-18), Minnesota Vikings (2019-21, 2023) and Seattle Seahawks (2022-23), appearing in 14 career games with two starts.
As an offensive assistant last season working primarily with the quarterbacks, Mannion helped tutor QB Jordan Love, who was named a Pro Bowl alternate after ranking No. 7 in the NFL in passing TDs per game (1.67) and No. 6 in TD percentage (5.9). Love posted a career-high 33 completions of 25-plus yards (tied for No. 6 in the NFL) and ranked No. 4 in the league in yards/completion (12.65) and No. 5 in yards/ attempt (7.97). Mannion also assisted in the development of QB Malik Willis, who was acquired by the Packers in a trade on Aug. 27, 2024. Willis started two games (Weeks 2-3) in place of an injured Love and saw significant action in two other contests (Weeks 8 and 18), completing 40 of 54 passes (74.1 pct.) for 550 yards and three TDs with no INTs for a 124.8 passer rating, the top single-season rating in NFL history among QBs with 50-plus attempts. Willis became the first NFL quarterback since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to post a 120-plus passer rating and 40-plus rushing yards in both of his first two starts with a team.
Mannion spent time on the practice squads of the Vikings and Seahawks in 2023, finishing the season with Seattle after being with the team for the final five weeks of the season. He was elevated to the gameday roster in Weeks 14-15, but did not see any action for the Seahawks in 2023. Mannion spent the entire 2022 campaign on Seattle's practice squad. He appeared in three games for Minnesota in 2021, starting for the Vikings at Green Bay in Week 17. He completed 22 of 36 passes (61.1 pct.) for 189 yards and his first career TD pass in the game at Lambeau Field, a 14-yarder to WR K.J. Osborn in the third quarter.
Mannion served as Minnesota's primary backup quarterback in 2020, but did not see any action. He backed up QB Kirk Cousins in 2019 and appeared in three games, including his first start with the Vikings in the regular-season finale vs. Chicago when he completed 12 of 21 passes (57.1 pct.) for 126 yards.
Mannion spent his first four seasons with the Rams, appearing in 10 games with one start from 2015-18. He played in a career-high five games in 2017 for the Rams when Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur was the team's offensive coordinator, and made his first NFL start in Week 17 vs. San Francisco when he threw for 169 yards on 20-of-34 passing (58.8 pct.). Mannion entered the league with the St. Louis Rams after being selected in the third round (No. 89 overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Oregon State, the highest- drafted QB out of the school since Erik Wilhelm in 1989 (third round, No. 83 overall).
Mannion appeared in 47 games with 43 starts at Oregon State, finishing his career with a school-record 13,600 passing yards, good for No. 8 in NCAA history at the end of his collegiate career. In addition to passing yards, he still holds school career records for passing TDs (83), completions (1,187) and completion percentage (64.6). Mannion twice earned All-Pacific-12 honorable mention (2013-14), tying for No. 4 in the nation with a school-record 37 TD passes in 2013. He also set a single-season school record with 4,662 passing yards, good for No. 2 in the nation in 2013, and set the single-season school mark with 400 completions. He played in all 12 games with 10 starts as a redshirt freshman in 2011, earning Freshman All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America after throwing for 3,328 yards and 16 TDs. Mannion became the youngest QB to start at Oregon State since Jonathan Smith as a redshirt freshman in 1998.
Mannion finished his career at Foothill High School (Pleasanton, Calif.) as the school's all-time leader in passing yards and threw for 3,521 yards and 27 TDs as a senior. He set a Northern California prep record with 581 passing yards and five TDs in a game and led Foothill to the Northern California CIF playoffs.
Mannion was born April 25, 1992, in San Jose, Calif. He and his wife, Megan, live in De Pere, Wis.
