What You Might've Missed: The pre-sacks Fackrell

Packers LB was putting together a strong game before his three sacks came

GREEN BAY – Packers LB Kyler Fackrell's three-sack game in Seattle wasn't just about the sacks.

So this edition of WYMM won't focus on those, and if you want to see a great breakdown of Fackrell's first sack, be sure to check out Larry’s “Rock Report.”

Instead, here the attention will be on the rather nice game the third-year pro was putting together in both run defense and pass coverage before he ever sacked QB Russell Wilson. It was an impressive all-around effort.

Play No. 1: First-and-10 from the Seattle 25, first quarter, 15:00 left

Result: Fumble recovered by Packers

The first play of the game, and while the hit came from LB Clay Matthews and the recovery by DB Tramon Williams, don't discount the impact Fackrell had on the play by getting into the backfield and forcing RB Chris Carson to cut right back into Matthews crashing down from the other side.

Play No. 2: Third-and-3 from the Seattle 27, first quarter, 13:09 left

Result: Incomplete pass

On Seattle's first third down of the game, Fackrell drops into pass coverage from his edge-rushing position. Before flaring out to pick up TE Nick Vannett in the flat, he bumps slot WR Doug Baldwin not only off his route but off his feet. Wilson cocks his arm and is looking at Baldwin the whole way, but has to pull the ball back down and then throws wildly over Vannett's head as Fackrell closes the gap there. Three-and-out.

Play No. 3: First-and-10 from the Green Bay 38, first quarter, 9:56 left

Result: 1-yard rush by WR Tyler Lockett

One play after a 30-yard run by RB Rashaad Penny gets the Seahawks across midfield for the first time, they call a trick play, but Fackrell foils it. Wilson pitches back to Lockett sweeping around behind him, but then as Lockett turns his head, presumably looking to throw the ball back to Wilson, Fackrell has held his ground on the back side and Lockett has to keep the ball.

Play No. 4: First-and-10 from the Green Bay 48, second quarter, 13:12 left

Result: 2-yard rush by Carson

Another solid play against the run by Fackrell, who knifes inside the attempted block by TE Darrell Daniels (87) to go across the formation and grab Carson by the ankles to hold him to a minimal gain. He even gets a pat on the back from his teammate, Matthews, for his efforts.

From this point on in the game, Fackrell got his three sacks, a deflected pass, and a tackle for loss against the run. A standout showing.
