Smart comes to the Packers from Vanderbilt University, where he was recently promoted to outside linebackers/edges coach. During the 2025 season, Smart worked as the pass rush specialist for Vanderbilt, helping the Commodores post the most wins (10) and SEC victories (six) in school history. He played on the defensive line (2019-21) at Wake Forest before injuries forced him to medically retire. Smart went on to spend two seasons with the Demon Deacons as a student assistant with the coaching staff (2022-23), working primarily with the defensive line, and one year as a defensive graduate assistant (2024).
