GREEN BAY – It's a big boost to a team's chances of winning when it can "double up" on the scoreboard on either side of halftime.
That means getting points on the final possession of the first half, and then getting the ball to start the second half and scoring again.
The Packers did exactly that in their 17-14 victory over the Buccaneers on Sunday, and the back side of that double up is the Chevy Drive of the Week.
Rookie K Trey Smack had just booted a 58-yard field goal on the final play of the first half for a 10-7 lead. The Packers then opened the third quarter with the ball on their own 20, and they got moving right away on a play-action pass down the seam to TE Mark Redman for 25 yards.
From the 45, a 3-yard run by RB MarShawn Lloyd followed by a 6-yard completion to WR Matthew Golden set up third-and-1. Lloyd used some nifty footwork to dodge a couple of tacklers at the line of scrimmage and picked up 5 yards to move the chains.
RB Kaleb Johnson subbed in for Lloyd and took the next three handoffs, first for 5 yards and then a 31-yard burst through a big hole up the middle for the Packers' longest rush of the season.
That made it first-and-goal on the 5, and Johnson ran for 3 yards down to the 2. Then QB Jordan Love found TE Tucker Kraft off a play fake by the front pylon for the score, a play the Packers had to challenge because it was initially ruled Kraft did not make the catch in bounds. Replay reversed the incorrect call on the field to a touchdown, and the Packers had their double up for a 17-7 lead.
