GREEN BAY – A better offensive day might've helped the Packers avoid overtime Sunday against the Jets, but when they got the ball in the extra period they made it count.
Hence, the game-winning series in OT is the natural choice for Chevy Drive of the Week.
It started on Green Bay's own 34-yard line, with RB Kaleb Johnson – making his Packers debut – bursting through a hole on the left side for 11 yards. Johnson then ran for 3 more yards on the next play.
QB Jordan Love followed with a swing pass into the flat to RB Chris Brooks, who made two tacklers miss and got up the sideline for 15 yards. Then another 15 was tacked on for a late hit out of bounds.
That put the ball on the Jets' 22-yard line for a potential 40-yard field goal. The Packers made it much easier on their rookie kicker, though, thanks to a quick reaction by Love and WR Matthew Golden.
When the cornerback to Love's left lined up across from Golden started to pinch inside to either blitz or support the run, Love lofted a quick pass over his head as Golden headed toward the sideline and into open space. The catch and run gained 14 yards, making it first-and-goal on the 8.
That was plenty close for rookie K Trey Smack, who hit his first career walk-off field goal from 26 yards out for the 20-17 triumph.
In all, the drive covered 58 yards in five plays and just over two minutes of clock time. Three of the four plays before the kick picked up first downs.
