The Packers uniform must never change

Maybe there's opportunity on kick-block

Brandon from Mililani, HI

Vic, reading a great book. In the book, they explain the sports fan mentality: "Whomever you root for represents you; and when they win, you win." What do you think?

We identify. That's why it's so important for teams to create an identity and maintain it.

Brett from Green Bay, WI

Vic, what's the No. 1 thing you'll be looking for in OTAs?

I want to see the first two picks cover NFL-caliber receivers.

Jimi from San Clemente, CA

Vic, if you were an owner of a team and you could have any choice of GM you wanted, who would it be? Who's making all the right moves, in your opinion?

I would look for an up and coming director of college scouting. Brian Gutekunst would be on my short list.

Paul from Green Bay, WI

Vic, would you please tell me how Dave Robinson stacked up against the all-time best linebackers?

He was ahead of his time. I think his talents were perfect for today's game. He was Lawrence Taylor before Taylor was Lawrence Taylor. If Robinson had played today, he might be the best linebacker in the game.

Eric from Amherst Junction, WI

Vic, if next year the NFL mandates all teams adjust their jerseys, to increase jersey sales, what minor or major adjustment would you make to the historic Packers jersey?

I would refuse to do it; that's how important identity is. The Packers' base uniform, and several other teams' base uniforms, must never change. They are the league's heritage teams, and their base uniforms are the game's link to its past. The fit of today's uniforms have required minor changes, but that's as far as it should go.

Michael from Sandy Hook, VA

How good could the Packers be this year, and for the next few years?

I'm beginning to acquire a very strong feeling for this season.

Justin from Orlando, FL

With the receiver position as stacked as it is, why has there been no talk of moving Ty Montgomery to running back?

I would blame it on sanity.

Andrew from St. Louis, MO

I was looking at pictures of Lambeau Field, and I am looking forward to seeing the south end zone expansion next time I go. How big do you think they could make the stadium and still fill all the seats?

You have to be real careful about adding seats, even for a team with a long waiting list for tickets. One seat too many might as well be a million seats too many. Florida State has steadily increased the seating capacity of Doak Campbell Stadium. One day, I saw some empty seats up high in the corners of the end zone. Now, I'm seeing large expanses of empty seats.

Evan from Mahtomedi, MN

Do you believe we will see the swinging gate and other gimmicky two-point attempts in the NFL?

If I was a head coach, I'd focus my attention on PAT defense, especially on kick-block strategy. I think there's an opportunity to steal some game-changing points. What about a track guy coming off the edge? What if you lined up two speedsters to the same side? What would that kind of speed do to blocking assignments? Could it cause gaps? I think there are unexplored strategies available on kick-block.

Erik from Noblesville, IN

Any chance you will watch the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday? The history and tradition of the 500 is truly amazing.

I'm not a racing fan. The closest I ever got to a race track was in Daytona. I ate at a Denny's across the street from the race track. They must've been practicing because the noise was deafening. I had trouble finishing my breakfast. So I got in my Versa and left.

Rick from Shawano, WI

"Eating donuts and beer." What's wrong with that? You are definitely not from Wisconsin.

Last fall, I went to my favorite food store to buy grits, but they didn't have any. I asked the woman at customer service where I might find grits. She looked at me as though I had said something dirty to her. I explained. She said they didn't have them. So, I made sure I brought back some grits when I returned from South Carolina this past winter, but now I see my favorite food store has grits on the shelf. I think they're just for me.

Ron from Bellaire, MI

Who remembers Ernie Davis? Could he have been as good as Jim Brown?

He was the next Jim Brown. I saw Davis play at Pitt Stadium when I was a boy. It was Davis vs. Mike Ditka. Syracuse finished the season undefeated, beat Texas in the Cotton Bowl and claimed the national title. They are the memories that make me rich.

Bill from Thornton, CO

How would Pete Rozelle have handled the current NFL? Would we see year-long suspensions like Hornung and Karras got back in the day?

Pete was a consensus builder; he had that charm to him. I think he would've tried to persuade the players union to support him in creating a harsher policy for player misconduct.

Dan from Madison, WI

"I don't want to see a bottle of pills play football." Of all people, you should know better, Vic. Pills don't make a back see the holes in the line, or the receiver catch the ball. That is a pretty ignorant comment, to say the least. Ryan Braun's having a pretty good year, but his stats slumped following his big year in 2012.
