The Returners

Before every kickoff I have a routine for capturing my imagery. Some of those opportunities come from inside the locker room, as the players make their way to the field, warmups, inside the tunnel, all the way to the coin toss. Even though it's a redundant formality, I still love the challenge on finding new compositions and moments. I'm always trying to make a similar moment even better by use of framing, light, textures and a different lens. This image of Randall Cobb is the perfect example of making a previous moment better. I like the center framing, the contrast between the dark shadows and white jerseys (I knew right away that this would be a great photo in black-and-white because of those elements) and Cobb's eyes, which display an intense focus. In the end I just want to make cool images and having rare access allows me to document the team like no one else. This image was shot with a 35mm lens (ISO = 200, Aperture = f2, Shutter = 1/60th).

Shining Bright in Dallas

Metaphoric photo? The last two trips to AT&T Stadium has been pretty good to the Green Bay Packers. We all remember the NFC Divisional playoff game, right? Now you can add this past season's game to the mix because it was just as exciting and full of great moments.

I'm sure other photographers along the sidelines were happy to see the beaming rays of light shining through the large windows. The challenge was trying to get a worthy composition to give it justice. Luckily, Aaron Rodgers and company were going in the right direction, to incorporate the light rays. Obviously the light makes the photo but I also like the shadows on the field and the fact that the Packers are closing in on a possible score. This image was shot with a 35mm lens (ISO = 1250, Aperture = f2, Shutter = 1/4000th).

#DreamDrive

Before every training-camp practice, I capture hundreds of images along DreamDrive, which is always fun to document. I love the tradition and interaction between the players and the fans, too. I usually tend to concentrate on the ride to practice because the players have their jerseys on and the light is usually golden. This past year's second night practice I decided to shoot from a high location to see if I could get something more visual. While I was waiting to make pictures I noticed that Jordy Nelson was cruising along the route. I like how he's pretty identifiable too, and that he was riding his usual bike with the basket. I followed him, through the lens, the entire way. Sometimes a photo comes together perfectly. This image was shot with a 400mm lens (ISO = 2500, Aperture = f2.8, Shutter = 1/400th).
