The Green Bay Packers signed TE Austin Allen to the practice squad on Jan. 3, 2023.
Allen (6-8, 253), a first-year player, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Nebraska by the New York Giants on May 13, 2022. After being released at the end of August, he spent the first six weeks of last season on the Giants' practice squad. Allen played in 44 games with 24 starts in college, registering 65 receptions for 975 yards (15.0 avg.) and three touchdowns. In 2021, he started all 12 games and recorded 38 catches for 602 yards (15.8 avg.), both single-season records for a Nebraska tight end. Allen was voted first-team All-Big Ten by the media, earned second-team honors from the league's coaches and was named Big Ten Tight End of the Year in 2021.
